Summer festival in Sonneberg: games, fun and treats for everyone!

Next Saturday a very special event will be celebrated in Sonneberg: the summer festival in the Köppelsdorf shared accommodation, also known as “Sternradio”. On September 13th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. everyone interested is invited to stop by Neuhäuser Straße 12 and spend a few social hours. Organized by Christoph Zeh from the local coordination and specialist office for Diversity instead of Simplicity in the Sonneberg district, this festival offers a colorful program for young and old.

Guests can expect a selection of small treats and refreshing drinks to sweeten the summer afternoon. For younger visitors there is a bouncy castle that invites them to play and run around. Table tennis is also on the agenda, for all age groups - there is certainly something for everyone.

Invitation to celebrate

The summer festival is not only an opportunity to get to know the neighborhood better, but also a celebration of diversity. No matter whether young or old, the event is open to everyone who wants to spend a happy time together. So if you don't have anything better to do, you should definitely mark this date in your calendar!

Erica Jong: A look at her life

While the celebrations are taking place in Sonneberg, the literary world is remembering the American author Erica Jong, who was born on March 26, 1942 in New York City. She became known for her bestseller “Fear of Flying,” which not only illuminated female sexuality in a new way, but also played a central role in the second feminist wave. With over 37 million copies sold, this novel is a real phenomenon.

Jong, who also holds a degree from Barnard College and an MA in 18th century English Literature from Columbia University, has impressed not only as a novelist but also as a satirist and poet. Her varied career also includes marriages to several men, including Michael Werthman and Jonathan Fast. Since 2025, she has lived in a Manhattan nursing home after being diagnosed with dementia in the early 2020s.

Her life shows how important it is to stay true to your passions despite all the difficulties. Her literary works, including “How to Save Your Own Life” and “Parachutes and Kisses,” also demonstrate her tireless commitment to creative expression. Jong is not only a literary great, but also a voice that has given courage to address personal and social issues.

Whether in Sonneberg at the summer festival or on the pages of a novel by Erica Jong, there are many ways to come together and celebrate life. Stop by and be inspired by the diversity - the community looks forward to seeing you!
