On November 11th, 2025 the time had finally come: The Kuckuck carnival association opened the 42nd foolish season at 11:11 a.m. in the Sonneberg town hall. A colorful hustle and bustle of music and dancing accompanied the celebrations at which the high dignitaries were crowned. Sonneberg reports that Sascha Reichenbacher, as head of the association, received the symbolic town hall key for 99 days. This begins a happy time for the fools in the city.
A highlight of the opening was the coronation of Prince Benni I von der Wehd, who named his partner Lisa from the twin town Neustadt as carnival princess. The new royal couple appeared in front of the audience at the traditional opening dance. At their side were the children's prince couple, consisting of eight-year-old Madita I. and ten-year-old Milo I. - both of whom also caused enthusiasm with a speech and a dance-filled performance.
Traditional town hall tower and celebratory reception
As was the case last year, the town hall storming traditionally took place on November 11th. instead of. Honors and awards
A nice moment of the event was the award of Silvia Otto and Doris Motschmann, the famous “Sumbarcher washerwomen” Hulda and Frieda. The two received the “Golden Bütt” for their long-term commitment of 30 years in the carnival scene. This medal is awarded by the regional association of Thuringian carnival clubs and is limited to eleven pieces per year.
The beautiful tradition of carnival in Sonneberg is not only entering the next round, but also promises a lot of joy until Ash Wednesday. The Cuckoos will tackle the 2025/26 carnival with great enthusiasm and will even take on the challenge of shouting “Cuckoo Hellau” 675 times during the season.
