Sonneberg invests in schools: large construction work until August 2025!
In the district of Sonneberg, investments are made in the infrastructure of the educational institutions. Until the start of school in August 2025, various school construction measures are on the plan. The focus of the effort is the renovation of the cloud lawn rule school. These measures are particularly set during the summer vacation to avoid disorders in school operations. In the regular school "Cuno Hoffmeister", the general renovation that has been running since June 2024 is further advanced. Here the completion of the total measure for 2027 is targeted, which brings with it for the students, teaching and parents for a long time.
In addition, the "Hermann Pistor" grammar school is supplemented by an external elevator, which is estimated at 190,000 euros. The completion is planned here during the summer vacation, so that the students can already use the new dining room in the new school year. The state vocational school also benefits from upcoming work. Here, windows and facade elements at the dormitory are renewed for 440,000 euros, also with a degree in the summer vacation.
smaller projects and challenges
But not only the larger projects are on the agenda. Smaller renovation measures are in the pipeline, including the outer staircase of the Rennsteig-Gymnasium in Neuhaus am Rennweg, which is estimated at 15,000 euros. The Lohauss school of the Sonneberg grammar school receives modernized security and escape luminaires as well as a drinking water installation, phase for 45,000 euros. The elementary schools Sonneberg-Grube and "Siblings Scholl" will also invest in the modernization of a classroom with 35,000 euros.
district spokesman Michael Volk wishes everyone involved a nice end to the school year 2024/25 and a relaxing summer time. This initiative for renovation and modernization is also regarded in response to the nationwide investment backlog in the field of schools, which according to a report by Architecturblatt.de reached its peak with 54.8 billion euros in 2024. It includes not only schools, but also daycare centers, the deficit of which is estimated at 12.7 billion euros.
A look into the future of education
The concerns of the school infrastructure have increased remarkably in Germany, in particular through the growing number of students and political decisions, such as the right to all -day care. Despite a slight increase in the investment activity of the municipalities, the pressure remains enormous due to rising construction prices and bureaucratic hurdles. 56 percent of the communities surveyed note that their deficit in the area of schools is "noteworthy" or "serious".
For a future -proof school_ infrastructure, modular educational buildings could be a solution. These enable faster implementations and are more financially flexible. Dr. Fritzi Köhler Geib from the KfW emphasizes that such approaches can help reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and the average construction period for module buildings could be shortened by up to 75 percent compared to conventional methods.
The development and modernization of schools is not just a topic for Sonneberg, but also affects the entire educational sector in Germany. It remains to be hoped that the urgently needed investments will be promoted in a targeted manner to optimize the learning circumstances.
