Sonneberger Singezentrum celebrates 40 years of music and friendship!
An atmospheric celebration took place on October 11, 2025 in the Neuhaus-Schierschnitz cultural hall: The Sonneberger Singezentrum “Hans-Werner Döring” e.V. celebrated its 40th anniversary. Under the motto “Let’s sit together,” singing fans and guests of honor gathered to properly celebrate this special occasion. The association was founded on October 7, 1985 as part of the “Summer of Songs” and has since then been committed to the motto of humanism, tolerance and peace inSuedthueringen reported.
Particularly moving was the memory of the founder Hans-Werner Döring, who died 21 years ago and had a significant influence on the choir. The song “Every Child Needs an Angel” was performed in his memory, a touching moment that moved many to tears. Susanne Engelhardt, soloist at the Freiberg Theater, also took part in the event as a guest and the dance group “Wolfsgruppe” under the direction of Simone and Martin Ruhs added additional festivity with their performances.
A special concert program
The concert offered a diverse selection of well-known songs, including “Tell me where you stand,” “Strong Together” and “Miracles Happen.” The performances were greeted with great applause and many guests enjoyed the emotional atmosphere. The guests of honor included Mayor Silke Fischer as well as representatives of social institutions and the Left party. Deserving club members were also honored: Birgit Nußpickel and Steffen Funke for 40 years of loyal membership, while Michael Brieger was honored for 30 years.
Choir director Steffen Thomas’s appreciation for his commitment rounded off the evening. “But we’re still here!” was the charming conclusion from the chairman’s mouth, who invited everyone present to continue singing together in the future and to keep the tradition of choral singing alive.
A look at the choral singing tradition
Choral singing has a long and eventful history that dates back to ancient times. In ancient times, choral singing played an important role in religious ceremonies and festivals. Over the centuries, many forms of communal singing have developed, which were also closely linked to social and political goals, as Saengerbund Flein describes. Today, singing societies are not only places for musical education, but also a central point for social gatherings.
The changing nature of leisure activities today brings challenges, but choral singing remains a valuable asset that can continue to have a positive impact on society. The Sonneberger Singezentrum is a shining example of how community and music can go hand in hand. The merits of maintaining this tradition should not be underestimated and will continue to require a lot of attention in the future.
Thanks go not only to the numerous participants, helpers and supporters, but also to the community of Föritztal, who supported the anniversary with a lot of heart and commitment. May the magic of song continue to reach people's hearts for a long time!
