Hiking enthusiasts conquer the Carinthian Nockberge: summiteers on tour!

A group of ten hikers from the DAV sections Selb and Sonneberg embarked on an exciting week of hiking in the Carinthian Nockbergen in Austria. Under the expert guidance of mountain hiking guide Siegfried Wagenführer, the participants experienced a week full of unforgettable summit climbs and scenic beauty. The hiking week began on August 31, 2025, when the group arrived at the Katschberg Pass at 1,641 meters, where the view offered a first taste of the week ahead.

With a pleasantly easy climb, the path took the participants over alpine-like terrain to the Neue Bonner Hütte, the first destination, which is located at an altitude of 1,712 meters. From there, the group had several more challenging tours in store, including the summit of the Adlerhorst (2210 m) and the Black Wall (2214 m). A particularly worthwhile highlight of the week was the ascent of the Königstuhl at 2,336 meters, which offered hikers a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The Sonneberg Alpine Club also reveals details about the entire course of the tours and is pleased about the lively participation and the great experiences. [Frankenpost] reports that the difficulty level of the hikes was classified as easy to moderate.

Unforgettable experiences in nature

The hiking week was not only characterized by physical challenges, but also by the opportunity to exchange ideas with other mountain enthusiasts. The number of participants was well limited with a minimum of three and a maximum of ten people, which enabled a personal atmosphere and an intensive experience of nature. For a small contribution of EUR 6.00, hikers not only received access to the impressive heights of the Nockberge, but also an unforgettable insight into the alpine environment.

The varied route started at the Neue Bonner Hütte and continued to the Dr.-Josef-Mehrl-Hütte at 1,730 meters before heading to the Falkerthaus and the Falkertspitz, whose altitude of 2,308 meters presented the team with further exciting challenges. Even experienced hikers could put their fitness to the test here: on some days, up to six hours of walking were planned, which was seen as welcome physical exercise in many places.

Preparation is everything

For some participants, the hiking week was not only a sporting highlight, but also a step on the way to obtaining a DAV ID card, in which successfully completed hikes and the documentation of corresponding tours play a key role. [Alpine Association] emphasizes that you should not only have a good knack for mountain hiking, but also experience in location and meteorology. Basic knowledge of first aid is also essential.

Whether with the impressive mountain panoramas or the convivial evenings in the huts, the hiking week in the Carinthian Nockberge gave everyone involved unforgettable experiences. The community and the challenges of nature are the main focus for the participants and always make such activities a special kind of experience that connects people up close.
