Erfurt loses to Suhl in the derby – Brancuská shines with 21 points!
An exciting Thuringian derby took place yesterday evening in Erfurt, which the volleyball players from VfB Suhl LOTTO Thuringia impressively won. With a clear 3-0 win (25:21, 25:15, 25:19), the guests showed a strong performance in front of almost 1200 spectators. The team from Suhl had some difficulties in the first few minutes, but the strength of diagonal attacker Monika Brancuska could not be overlooked. Brancuska, who recently moved to Suhl from first division club Olympia Prague, contributed an impressive 21 points to the victory. She is considered one of the most promising newcomers to the Bundesliga and once again showed what she is capable of. According to the MDR report, it was the special importance of this derby that increased the pressure on the players.
Coach Laszlo Hollosy jumped on the team's active defense right from the start. He was particularly dissatisfied with the defensive work. According to Hollosy, the Erfurt women were not able to achieve the necessary level in the decisive game situations. Middle blocker Laura Berger spoke of a “difficult start to the game,” which underlined the initial situation. In the first set the team was on equal footing, but lost in crucial moments, which continued throughout the entire game.
Brancuská and her role in the team
Monika Brancuska is known not only for her points, but also for her athleticism and presence at the net, even though she is only 21 years old. Her assessment of the first Bundesliga season is entirely positive - she is looking forward to working with her new teammates. Her team manager Jens Haferkorn is enthusiastic about her discipline, hard work and passion in training and sees in her the potential of a future world-class diagonal attacker. As the Suhl Volleyball website reports, she impressed in the Czech Extraliga, where she was able to gain international experience.
Last year, other German players also showed remarkable performances. The record national player Renate Riek-Bauer stands in a league of her own with her 518 international matches, while VfB Suhl is relying on talented newcomers in order to remain competitive in the German league. Among the active players there are many who have played numerous international matches, including Ute Steppin and Christiane Fürst. Brancuska's performance is all the more impressive, as she is only at the beginning of her career. Their dynamism and tireless commitment could shape the future of the team.
Yesterday it was once again confirmed that volleyball has a lifeline in Thuringia, and the enthusiasm lives in every shot, every point that is shared. While Suhl celebrates the derby victory, it remains to be seen how the coming games will develop. The course is set for an exciting season!
