Five new meerkats conquer Suhl Zoo!

There has recently been exciting news at the Thuringian Zoo Suhl: A new group of five meerkats has arrived. These sociable animals come from three different places—Duisburg, Rostock and Herborn. Thuringia24 reports that the mixture of an experienced female meerkat, a lively male and three younger animals provides a breath of fresh air in the zoo.

The new residents have settled in extremely well over the last few weeks and can be seen in the outdoor enclosure. Visitors can enjoy the funny pranks of the meerkats as they scurry around their new home with curiosity and playfulness. N TV highlights that social cohesion and shared play are already clearly visible while the animals are still learning to find their roles within the community.

The new group in detail

The meerkat group, consisting of five animals, is made up of:

  • einer erfahrenen Erdmännchen-Dame
  • einem lebhaften Männchen aus dem Calisto Tierpark Duisburg
  • drei jungen Tieren, die aus Rostock und Herborn stammen

These animal newcomers are not only an attraction, but also a great example of the unique social behavior of meerkats. It is known that these animals are very social creatures, living in family groups and taking on specific tasks, be it guarding the burrow or caring for young animals. South Thuringia highlights that visitors to the zoo have the opportunity to observe this fascinating behavior up close.

So if you finally want to see the cute meerkats in action, you should make your way to Suhl as quickly as possible. The zoo definitely has a knack for attracting new residents, and the meerkats could soon take visitors' hearts by storm.
