Parkstrasse in Bad Liebenstein: Large road project successfully completed!
Bad Liebenstein has once again shown how committed the city is to investing in the future. On June 20, 2025, the time had finally come: Parkstrasse, an important traffic corridor in the city, was officially handed over after extensive renovation. With a length of around 400 meters, a completely renewed image was created that is both aesthetically and functionally impressive. This has steered the city of Bad Liebenstein insuedthueringen.de in the right direction.
A total of an impressive one million euros flowed into this important measure. This sum was raised jointly by the city of Bad Liebenstein and several utility providers such as the Bad Salzungen Water and Wastewater Association (WVS), TEN Thüringer Energienetze GmbH & Co. KG (TEN) and Werraenergie GmbH. Mayor Susanne Rakowski was present at the handover, as were representatives of the companies involved, whose commitment made a significant contribution to the success of the project.
Extensive measures
The expansion of Parkstrasse not only includes the redesign of the roadway, but also extensive work underground. In total, around 250 meters of new canal were built and supply lines were laid. The road surface was redesigned as a mixed traffic area, which is suitable not only for cars but also for pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, empty pipes were prepared for future connection with fiber optics, which sets an important example for the digital future. This planning was organized by the engineering firm Oppermann GmbH from Gotha, while the construction was carried out by the company Daniel Nelitz GmbH.
The main construction work took place between spring and autumn 2024. Intensive cooperation between all those involved made it possible for the project to be ceremoniously completed. In her speech, Mayor Rakowski thanked everyone who contributed to the success of this project. She emphasized how important such collaborative projects are for the future of Bad Liebenstein and how they help ensure that the city remains livable.
Importance of public investment
The work on Parkstrasse is in line with current trends in the construction industry and the challenges that many cities in Germany have to overcome. According to bauindustrie.de, construction spending for municipalities is increasing, even if there has been a decline in investments since 2018. Especially in times like this, projects like the renewal of Parkstrasse are essential to maintain and modernize the cities' infrastructure.
In times of high construction price increases, such investments are important to ensure that the quality of the city's infrastructure does not suffer. Despite the challenges posed by debt and stagnating tax revenue, the will to modernize and maintain the quality of living in Bad Liebenstein remains unbroken. Hopefully this type of investment will continue to be undertaken in the future!
