Peter Wimmer flies 964 km - record set up in a gliding!

On July 4, 2025, Peter Wimmer reported an impressive new personal record in a glider. With his Ventus 2CXT, he covered a distance of 964 kilometers. This flight, which started and ended at the Lauf-Lillinghof glider airfield, was not only a sign of Wimmers, but also a clear sign of record hunting in the gliding community. After all, he exceeded the previous record of Lukas Eibl, who was flying 910 kilometers in 9.5 hours with his ASW24 on July 1, 2025, which was the longest gliding from Lauf-Lillinghof ever recorded.

Wimmer's flight route initially led to north-northwest before flew from Suhl to the south to Günzburg-Donauried. Wimmer used the thermal and its years of experience. It was particularly impressive to use the evening thermal, which helped him to make an optimal height before Bayreuth in order to make the final approach secure. After 9 hours and 24 minutes he finally landed at the Lauf-Lillinghof glider airfield, only shortly after 8 p.m. He has come closer to the goal of cracking the 1000 kilometer mark, which continues to cheer on Segelfflugsport.

The successes at the Lauf-Lillinghof glider airfield are piling up this summer. Lukas Eibl and Dominik Zuber also flew in the team on June 29, 2025 - a collaboration that was leading to both remarkable achievements. Eibl started at 10:30 a.m. and quickly reached a height of 1400 m, while the conditions for tailwind and good climbing values were initially ideal.

But the thermal became more difficult in the Bavarian Forest, and Eibl had to reverse. According to a convergence line via Bayreuth, he was even able to reach a speed of up to 119 km/h. In general, the weather was a challenge, critical "blue holes" ensured that the pilots had to become creative to keep their heights. Team flight trained flew to the Fichtelgebirge and ended up with impressive results.

It is particularly noteworthy that Dominik Zuber was also hardworking that day and can now already show three flights over 800 kilometers from the airfield. After landing, Zuber even ordered pizza from his fiancee, who arrived on time for the return - a perfect rounding of a successful flight!
