Suhl remains strong in sport: positive reviews and new challenges

This year's Suhl Sports Association's city sports day attracted many interested faces in the upper town hall. As insuedthueringen.de reports, President Pierre Döring drew a positive conclusion despite minor declines in the club system. Overall, Suhl's sports clubs have shrunk by two clubs and 38 members compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the level of organization of 21.3% is impressive, and is therefore above the Thuringian state average of 18.3%.

One bright spot was the increase in members up to the age of 18, which rose by 142 to 1,963, which corresponds to a pleasing increase of 7.8%. Such figures are important because they show that sport in the region is particularly popular among young people.

Challenges for the future

Despite positive developments, there are also challenges that the sports association must address. The increased energy costs, lack of hall time and the loss of the Ottilienbad are causing difficulties. Döring appealed to the city to push ahead with master planning for sports facilities from 2028 so that the clubs can continue to exist and grow in the future.

Another important point that Uwe Höhn from LSB Thuringia pointed out was the need for clear structures and better prevention. In order to meet these challenges, a new volunteer funding program was introduced by the Free State of Thuringia, which is intended to help the clubs. Nevertheless, the search for trainers, supervisors and club officials remains a rocky road for many.

New elections and honors

In the new elections, Pierre Döring remains president of the SSB, while Gerhard Neukirchner and Hendrik Hausdörfer were re-elected as vice presidents. Other positions, such as the chairmanship of the Suhl Sports Youth, are also filled by Sebastian Bohne and the assessors Achim Arnold and Silvia Bergner. New to the executive board are Lars Degner and Lars Lützkendorf, who will bring a breath of fresh air into the organization.

Some members were particularly highlighted for their achievements: Ronny Hermann received the bronze badge of honor, while Inge Müller and Fritz Schmidt were awarded silver. Hendrik Hausdörfer, who has been active on the executive board of the SSB since 1996, was honored with the GutsMuths plaque of honor in silver.

The event showed that despite the challenges, progress can also be made. Sport continues to have a high priority in Suhl and shows how important cohesion and commitment in the community are.
