Dream of having your own campsite: Naturcamp Lenkgrund opens in Ilmenau!

A dream comes true: The “Nature Camp Lenkgrund” in Ilmenau is open! With a lot of passion, Claudia and her husband from Thuringia realized their long-held dream of having their own campsite. Since purchasing the site of a former natural swimming pool in 2018, they have taken numerous trips and incorporated their experiences as passionate campers into the project. But as is the case in life, there were also a few hurdles to overcome that delayed the renovation of the square for several years. Work could not begin until 2024 and now, a year later, the campsite is flourishing.

The interest in the new campsite was remarkable from the start. Reports from various media, including MDR, accompanied the project and documented the development. By the time of the big opening day, all 20 parking spaces had already been taken. Some interested parties were even turned away because the demand was so great. The campers are now standing in the remains of the former swimming pool, where the old stairs are still a witness to times gone by.

The offer in the nature camp

The “Naturcamp Lenkgrund” offers a combination of nature experience and modern amenities. It is located directly on the Rennsteig in the Thuringian Forest and has space for tents, mobile homes, caravans and even tiny houses. Although the campsite has just opened, not all areas are yet finished as construction work is still ongoing in various areas, including the old swimming pool. For anyone curious, there will be an open day on June 28th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested can take this opportunity to get to know the new campsite and look forward to a day full of craft activities for the children and food. Admission is free, which only makes the offer even more attractive.

Camping in Thuringia

The “Naturcamp Lenkgrund” fits seamlessly into the new camping map for Thuringia, which was recently published. This map includes 65 scenic campsites that not only offer beautiful pitches but also well-maintained sanitary facilities. The map is part of the Thuringian Forest 2025 tourism concept and is intended to provide valuable support for regional tourism.
