Graduation ceremony in Mühlhausen: Emotional presentation of certificates and great joy!

On June 21, 2025, the bells of the Divi Blasii Church in Mühlhausen rang ceremoniously to mark the beginning of the final service for the high school graduates of the Evangelical School Center. The air was filled with a mix of relief and anticipation as parents, grandparents, friends and teachers filled the pews of the church and joined in honoring the high school graduates' achievements. After years of intensive learning, the time had finally come for the young adults: their certificates were presented and their hard work was rewarded with an overall average of 1.88. Katrin Stedefeld from the Evangelical School Center was enthusiastic about the excellent results of the students, who are now looking to their future with hope.

But graduating from high school is not just an academic achievement; it is also a social farewell and a celebratory departure into new phases of life. Traditionally, the closing service is followed by a variety of celebrations, which have taken on a special place this year. The list of celebrations included not only the graduation ball at the Hotel Maritim, but also creative pranks and personalized graduation mottoes. The Abi Ball is considered the highlight of the high school graduation period and brings the students together for an unforgettable evening with speeches, dancing and a rich buffet.

Celebrations and graduation traditions

According to reports from high school graduates, there are a lot of traditional celebrations after the exams. One of the most popular are the Abi T-shirts, which present creative mottos every year, such as this year “Abisaurus rex – The Cretaceous Period is over”. This was the result of a compromise between the ideas of boys and girls in the basic art course. Pash-net also describes the importance of high school graduation books in which personal memories, pictures from school trips and even humorous rankings such as “Beauty Queen” or “Latecomer” are collected.

Another highlight of the celebrations are the popular graduation pranks, which in this case were characterized by creative and funny ideas. One student reported a “yard game” in which teachers had to compete in a non-existent course, while others set up a barricade with water bombs at the main entrance. Such pranks are not only fun, but also a sign of solidarity and humor among the high school graduates.

A look into the future

With today marked by religious rituals and shared moments, the high school graduates can proudly look back on their successes. The blessing at the end of the service, given by Pastor Peter van Briel and Pastor Roland Wendland, symbolizes the new phase of life that lies ahead of them. “The Story of the Caterpillar and the Butterfly” was taken up as a symbol of change and courage, which should encourage high school graduates to find their own way.

The graduates can now look to the future with promise, filled with memories of their school days and the knowledge that many people support them. While the anticipation and excitement about their future paths is palpable, they are also looking forward to the upcoming celebrations. The Abitur is more than just the end of school; it is the starting signal for new adventures and challenges.
