In the last few days the city of Eisenach has shown a less positive side. Burglaries, thefts and vandalism keep the police on their toes and citizens on tenterhooks. The break-in at a nursing home in particular is causing concern among residents.
On the night of Saturday to Sunday, unknown perpetrators entered the nursing home on Clemensstrasse. The burglars damaged a basement window to gain access to the basement area. A door was also broken open to enter a food storage room. The result: Numerous food items were stolen and the damage to windows and doors is estimated at around 700 euros. The Gotha State Police Inspectorate is asking for information about the incident, which is listed under reference number 0219977/2025. Lots of theft going on
But that wasn't the only incident in the last few days. On Sunday around 4:30 a.m., two unknown people stole a frying pan with 15 schnitzels and two meatballs from the Eisenach Christmas market. A security guard noticed the perpetrators as they fled towards the main post office with the pan. The estimated damage is around 130 euros, as eisenachonline.de shows.
That same morning, but already at 6:30 p.m., young people were observed in a fast food restaurant taking a large shoe mat after they had previously eaten in the restaurant. Here too, the managing director estimates the damage at around 300 euros. The list of thefts continues with a break-in at the “Am Michelsbach” retirement home, where a radio and a flat screen were stolen on Saturday at 4:45 a.m. Witnesses report three perpetrators, one of whom was discovered by nursing staff. It is unclear how the burglars got into the building and the investigation is ongoing.
The current situation
There was also another incident on Friday. A VW van was broken into when the driver briefly left. The passenger window was smashed and a suitcase containing a notebook and a printer was stolen. The damage caused is estimated at around 1,900 euros. The police are also investigating this case and can hope for clues.
Vandalism is also a problem in Eisenach. At the beginning of 2025, several election posters, trash cans and parasols were damaged in the city center, causing total damage of around 6,000 euros. Here too, the police are looking for witnesses to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The constant crime in the city naturally also has an impact on residents' sense of security.
