The Gerstungen theater group has put in the effort and staged a unique play along the picturesque Werra under the title “Art on the Path”. The performance started on June 14, 2025, and the audience will be able to enjoy the cultural highlight in a total of six performances until June 29. The overall director Jana Freiberg and her team have managed to combine theater with a captivating natural experience, making the performance a special event. The audience is not only introduced to the poignant plot, but also taken on a tour of Gerstungen.

“Art on the Path” not only offers viewers an insight into different eras of art, but also lets them immerse themselves in the roles of well-known painters and works of art. The main role of Pelza, who guides the audience through the different art styles, is played by the talented Sabine Quaas. Visitors also meet Leonardo da Vinci, played by Ronny Barufke, as well as Käthe Kollwitz and Frida Kahlo, played by Giesela Verges and Sophia Singer respectively. Silvia Stein also brings the Mona Lisa to life. This makes a wide range of artists visible, encouraging reflection and amazement.

The production uses numerous impressive locations for its performances. The pivotal point is St. Catherine's Church in Gerstungen, from which the spectators start the tour. There are various stops along the way, including a fascinating old industrial site and other places that enrich the ambience. The theater group has shown a good knack for bringing the production to life and celebrating the fascination of art.

The performances will take place on the evenings of June 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available in the library and the Gerstungen Citizens' Office as well as at the box office. The catering team from the KunstGENuss theater group will take care of your physical well-being and offer snacks and drinks to round off the evening.

Cultural highlights in Germany

There are numerous cultural events on the program in Germany in 2025. While Chemnitz is celebrated as the European Capital of Culture, Berlin is planning a whole year full of exhibitions and events to celebrate the 200th birthday of the Museum Island. Dessau is also thinking big and is planning events for the 100th birthday of the architecture and design school. The range spans from historical to modern art. Germany also honors Johann Sebastian Bach with numerous concerts, while the German Fairy Tale Route celebrates its 50th birthday.

These events once again show how lively the German cultural scene is, and they create a variety of opportunities to experience art and history up close. A visit to Gerstungen is certainly a worthwhile natural and cultural experience. The opportunity to experience art in such special places should not be missed.
