New cycle path in Dermbach: the historic Felda bridge is being renovated!
In Dermbach, a charming town in the Wartburg district, a lot is happening on the cycle path front. The construction of a new cycle path and sidewalk is planned for 2026, which will run along State Road 1026. Particularly noteworthy: The path will lead over the historic Felda Bridge, the renovation of which is also part of the project. The local council has paved the way for this project with two resolutions, which is to be implemented in close cooperation with the Thuringian State Office for Building and Transport (TLBV). Loud in southern Thuringia This is a future-oriented step that benefits both pedestrians and cyclists.
But Dermbach is not alone when it comes to expanding cycle paths. Around 800 kilometers of cycle paths are to be built or renovated throughout the state of Thuringia. Infrastructure Minister Susanna Karawanskij (Left) announced this during a speech in Erfurt. The aim is to connect all central locations in the Free State via cycle paths and thus improve mobility for everyone. The planned cycle path network will cover an impressive 4,165 kilometers, which will represent a true paradise for enthusiastic cyclists.
Statewide vision for cyclists
The efforts in Thuringia to promote cycling are part of a larger plan to improve infrastructure. As per a report by MDR As can be seen, many sections of the cycle path network are already passable, while others still need to be built or upgraded. The expansion is supported by the federal government with a special program that will provide around 55 million euros by 2028. So far, Thuringia has already invested almost 50 million euros in expanding cycle paths. The focus is particularly on linking cycle paths with local public transport, which should further encourage the switch to environmentally friendly means of transport.
The minister also noted that the gaps in the existing network must now be closed in close cooperation between the state and municipalities. Around 1,300 requests for changes and additions from municipalities and associations were incorporated into the planning. This lively participation shows how important the topic of cycle paths is for citizens and that Thuringia has a real knack when it comes to planning and implementing cycle infrastructure.
The development in Dermbach is only a small part of a larger whole. Investments in cycling infrastructure are not only a benefit for the environment, but also for the quality of life of local people. If everything goes according to plan, from 2026 cyclists can look forward to new, safe and attractive paths that will lead them through the picturesque Thuringian landscape.
