Apolda celebrates her first confirmation in 10 years – cheers in the Lutherhaus!
On June 22nd, an important event took place in Apolda: the first confirmation ceremony in ten years. 37 young people from the Jena parish, which includes Apolda, Camburg, Bad Sulza and Jena, received the sacrament of confirmation in the Luther Church Apolda, administered by Auxiliary Bishop Reinhard Hauke from Erfurt. The decision to move the ceremony from the originally planned town church to the Luther Church became necessary because damage to the ceiling in the town church was discovered. The young people had been preparing intensively for this important faith event since September 2024, which also symbolizes that they are ready to take responsibility for their faith. An annual confirmation course with around 35 participants has been established in the parish to prepare the young people for this step.
But that wasn't the only highlight of the weekend. On June 25th, a lecture by Belinda Grace Gardner on “Acrobats of World Theater” will be offered at the Kunsthaus Apolda. In addition, the 21st Apolda City Run in the Hans Geupel Stadium awaits numerous participants. This starts at 5 p.m. and offers different runs for different age groups. Anyone who has not yet registered has the opportunity to register either online or on site by 5 p.m. on the day of the event. Mayor Dirk Schütze is also inviting people to a public residents' meeting in the Pfuhlsborn clubhouse in Bad Sulza on this day at 7 p.m.
More events
Two interesting events are planned for June 26th: On the one hand, the completion of the construction work on the Eberstedt cemetery will be celebrated, and on the other hand, another residents' meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the Gasthof Langemann in Großromstedt. In addition, an event on the revival and usage prospects of the water castle is planned in the Kapellendorf moated castle. These opportunities offer the population the opportunity to actively participate in shaping their community.
A sports festival with various events will be held in Niedertrebra on June 27th and 28th. For music lovers there is a country evening in Bad Sulza on June 27th, where the band Rodeo will perform live. The “Gotthold Ephraim Lessing” state primary school in Apolda is also celebrating its 60th birthday with a colorful graduation party and is bringing this anniversary to a fitting end.
Volunteering in the region
Another exciting aspect of the regional community is volunteer work. In Cologne, for example, around 900 volunteers are active in 28 units, 24 of which work with children and young people between the ages of 10 and 18. Not only do volunteers have a critical impact on the common good, but they also develop important skills and sometimes discover their own strengths. As Känguru Online reports, teenagers and young adults are particularly active in this area. Popular volunteer areas include sports clubs, student councils and church activities, which offer many opportunities to get involved in society.
If you are interested in volunteering, you will find numerous offers online to help you with your search. Platforms such as “Volunteer Search” or “GoVolunteer” invite you to look for suitable opportunities and make a valuable contribution to society.
