Today, July 2, 2025, there was some news in Weimar that is stirring people's minds. One incident in particular in the area around Hottelstedt and Ottmannshausen is causing concern. On Monday afternoon, a barley field covering an area of around 1,000 square meters was set on fire. In addition, 500 square meters of a ditch burned. Fortunately, a smoldering fire in a nearby woodpile was extinguished in time, which prevented anything worse from happening. The volunteer fire brigades from Ramsla, Buttelstedt and Berlstedt were on site with full commitment to bring the flames under control. The amount of material damage cannot yet be quantified, but what is certain is that a significant problem has arisen. Witnesses reported a suspicious cyclist who was seen near the scene at the time of the incident wearing a half mask with a mirrored visor. In addition to the fire incident, there is also news from local events. On June 25th, the Weimar city council passed new regulations on compensation amounts according to the building code. This means that property owners in redevelopment areas will be able to pay the amount voluntarily and early in the future, which means they can receive a financial discount. The city administration will inform the affected owners in writing, supported by the German City and Property Development Company. This aims to ensure fair and uncomplicated processing.
Sports appreciation in Weimar

A pleasant event from the last few days was the city cycling, which was successfully completed last Friday. The best teams were awarded at the closing ceremony. The Glatt Ingenieurtechnik team was the most successful with 61 participants, followed by the Weimar Clinic and the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium. With 15 schools taking part, a new record was set here too. The kilometers collected are converted into donations, and the “Kabel & Faden – Repair-Café Weimar” association receives almost 2,900 euros for sustainable projects.
