In Weimar, the recognition of voluntary commitment is just around the corner. On December 12, 2025, the Sparkassenstiftung Weimar - Weimarer Land will award the Citizens' Prize to honor the remarkable achievements of individuals, groups or initiatives. The prize is endowed with a total of 5,000 euros and is awarded in three categories: “U25”, “Everyday Heroes” and “Lifetime Achievement”.
The first proposals for the Citizens' Prize can be submitted online until August 31, 2025. Interested parties are invited to submit suggestions for people, clubs or institutions that meet the criteria such as new ideas in volunteer work, role model character and socially relevant topics. The application documents must contain informal information about the nominated actor as well as a justification for the nomination of between one and three pages, such as the page from zivita.de reveals.
Special recognition and award ceremony
As was possible in the past, this year the selection will again be made by the Board of Trustees. Traditionally, three winners are usually honored, and up to 25 additional nominees receive a certificate. The citizens' award ceremony takes place in a celebratory setting in the citizens' hall of the Zittau town hall, where a presentation of the award winners and a laudatory speech are important. Guests can also enjoy a stand-up snack after the award ceremony.
Another highlight in the area of volunteer work is the nomination for the German Engagement Prize, which honors various organizations and initiatives. Many projects stood out in the most recent audience award vote. The parent network mixed bag e.V. took first place with 10,896 votes, followed by Stevie's Hundesenioren-Hospiz e.V. with 10,442 votes. A variety of other initiatives also enjoyed great popularity and collected numerous votes, such as deutscher-engagementpreis.de lists.
Construction work and renovations
In addition, the Wittumspalais remains closed for the time being, as renovation work on the roof and masonry is necessary due to static and structural defects. These investments are expected to amount to 700,000 euros, which will go towards the necessary maintenance until the end of November.
