Pestalozzi School Weimar celebrates 100 years with a big party!

There's a real reason to celebrate: The Pestalozzi School in Weimar is celebrating its 100th anniversary today! A colorful supporting program welcomes former employees and students who reminisce and celebrate the cultural heritage of the primary school at William-Shakespeare-Straße 15-17.

Founded in 1925 and based on the educational reform ideas of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, the school has had a remarkable career. The entire facility, which was inaugurated in 1928, was supplemented by, among other things, an extensive school garden and an alpine garden, which turned the educational center into a living space for children and young people. The reconstruction and renovation between 1988 and 1992 also contributed to the modernization and improvement of the school grounds.

History and development

The Pestalozzi School is not only an educational institution, but also an integral part of Weimar history. Wikimedia highlights that during the Second World War the premises were temporarily used as a military hospital before regular school operations were resumed in 1945. The challenges the school had to overcome over time included the massive increase in student numbers, particularly in the GDR, where the school had more than 1,000 students.

Today, around 500 children and young people attend the Pestalozzi School, which impresses with its interactive and creative learning environment. The school's own concept has developed over the decades and promotes the individual development of the students in a variety of ways. A bronze statue of a seated girl, created by Richard Engelmann in 1929, stands as a symbol in front of the buildings and is a reminder of the school's tradition.
