Storm disaster in Thuringia: Family urgently needs help!

Weimar, Deutschland - On June 1, a violent storm moved over Thuringia and left massive damage in the Weimar Land. The streets turned into raging streams, while mud and scree avalanches rolled through the affected districts. The rural community on the Ettersberg was particularly affected. The fire departments were in constant use to fix the damage and provide support. It needed courage to struggle through the devastation, and many residents were dependent on help.

In an emotional story, a family stands out that has lost everything in the floods. Luise, a close friend of the family, started a call for donations on the Gofundme platform. The pictures on the side show the destruction: water and mud broke the courtyard gate and damaged the yard, barn and the garden. "We were always there for others," explains Luise, now asking for support for the family, who urgently needs help with the reconstruction. The storm did not only hit the Ettersberg. In the Tannroda district of Bad Berka, the gravel also piled up to half a meter high and destroyed parts of the infrastructure. Streets had to be closed at times, and in many places the sewage system could not cope with the massive rain. Large amounts of precipitation fell within a few minutes, which caused flooded streets and the fire brigade from several cities were willing to alert.

In Kranichfeld, the thunderstorms also left their mark. The dangerous weather situation even led to an accident on the A4 near Weimar, in which several vehicles collided on rain wet roads. Fortunately, there was only a slightly injured person and a total damage of around 50,000 euros. The highway had to be temporarily closed to clear the scene of the accident.

The German Weather Service (DWD) had already warned of the severe thunderstorms. Severe weather warnings were proclaimed for Thuringia, which included both wars and acute warnings. The warning levels range from moderate (orange) to extreme storms (violet).
