U-train frequency increases: Munich is preparing for Champions League final!
On Saturday, May 26, 2025, the eagerly awaited Champions League final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain takes place in the Allianz Arena in Munich. In preparation for the big game, the Munich transport company (MVG) has announced that it significantly increase the subway frequency to the arena. From 1 p.m. a subway train will be available every five minutes, while from 3 p.m. the intervals will be shortened to every three minutes.
In addition to the subway, the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) will also use special trains to the Munich area. These measures are intended to ensure that fans and visitors can easily get to the different destinations. The last trains from Munich to Tegernsee, Lenggries and Bayrischzell drive at 1:10 a.m., and the trains to Rosenheim, Kufstein and Traunstein will take off from Munich Central Station at around 1:00 a.m.
additional traffic adjustments
The traffic measures in Munich are not only limited to the Champions League final. The BRB will also offer additional trains for the upcoming and on June 4th and 8th June. In games that end in extra time or in a penalty shootout, the season could drag on to midnight, which will also lead to an adaptation of the departure times.
In the Netzen Oberland, the last train to Tegernsee, Lenggries and Bayrischzell from Munich will depart at 1:10 a.m., while the last train to Rosenheim will start at around 0:43 a.m. on the Chiemgau-Intal network. This descent consists of two parts of the train that are extended to Kufstein or Traunstein.
information for passengers
The Bavarian Railway Society (BEG) will finance the additional train services. These activities are carried out on behalf of the Bavarian Ministry of Transport, which is responsible for planning, financing and control of the regional and S-Bahn traffic. More detailed information during travel times is provided on the BRB website, on social media and via WhatsApp channels.
In addition, the MVG asks the passengers to find out about possible restrictions on the use of subway in advance. In the case of previous games such as the Champions League round of 16 between FC Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen, there were changes in the subway operation due to construction sites, so that passengers were asked to switch to the lines U1 and U2 if necessary.
With these preparations, those responsible are optimistic that the fans will experience a smooth journey and journey home while enjoying the exciting games in the Allianz Arena.
