Storm chaos: squalls and S-Bahn failure in Berlin and Bavaria!

On June 26, 2025, violent storms caused fear and terror in Germany, especially in the east and in Bavaria. Gusts of wind and real hail have hit Berlin and the neighboring federal states since the afternoon. Loud Picture A person is in mortal danger after being hit by a falling treetop in Potsdam. The fire brigade's operations are almost endless: over 580 emergency calls were received in Berlin by 8:30 p.m., and calls for help were also made in neighboring regions.

The situation in Berlin's local transport is chaos. S-Bahn traffic had to be temporarily stopped completely, which was a stroke of luck for many travelers who were dependent on rail traffic on Monday and again on Thursday evening. At 6:15 p.m., all train traffic came to a standstill due to fallen trees on the tracks, and trains desperately waited for the freak weather to end. It was only in the evening that operations on some lines were slowly resumed, but the citizens' nerves are strained to the breaking point. Again Daily Mirror reported, the storms also had devastating consequences in Heiligensee, where two people were seriously injured - a pedestrian was hit by a falling tree and a driver was buried under a tree. There was also another serious incident in Potsdam.

The weather situation at a glance

The German Weather Service has urgently warned of hurricane-like gusts of up to 110 km/h. Particularly strong wind speeds of up to 95 km/h were recorded in Berlin, especially in the districts of Nord-Spandau, Heiligensee and Tegel, where the fire brigade was in constant use to clear fallen trees and torn branches. Trails in the Tegeler Forest are hardly passable, and large branches also block the roads in Konradshöhe. At the same time, there were reports of uprooted trees that damaged cars, for example on Müllerstrasse in the Wedding district NDR informed.

Fortunately, there was also a positive effect of the torrential rain: a forest fire near Fischwasser-rückersdorf was extinguished by the refreshing rainfall. Given the numerous fire brigade operations, the evening was a real test for many emergency services. In Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, fire brigade operations increased massively, especially in the Altmark.

However, it remains unclear how long the storms will last. There were also warnings of heavy rain for Munich and the surrounding area with precipitation of up to 40 liters per square meter and hail with diameters of up to 2 cm. Against this background, it remains to be seen how quickly the situation in the affected regions will normalize. The weather is currently showing its harsh side and is an important issue for all residents and travelers.
