Woltemade shines with a hat-trick: Germany sweeps away Slovenia 3-0!
A successful start for the German U21 national team at the European Championships in Slovakia! In the first group game, coach Antonio di Salvo's team clearly defeated Slovenia 3-0. In front of 2,708 spectators at the pod Zoborom stadium in Nitra, Nick Woltemade stood out, scoring a remarkable hat-trick. This success makes it clear that the German juniors are ready to flirt with the title.
The game quickly picked up speed. Woltemade scored the first goal in the 21st minute after a precise header from Nicolo Tresoldi. It was the start of a dominant first half. With another goal in the 44th minute, prepared by Max Rosenfelder, Woltemade sent the German team into the half-time break with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Even though Slovenia had a chance to equalize with a header from Cipot in the 44th minute, German goalkeeper Noah Atubolu was in top form and kept the goal clean.
The decisive moment and the dominance of the Germans
The second round showed a similar picture: Germany was clearly superior, while Slovenia tried to catch up, but only succeeded with half chances. The referee Jakob Sundberg awarded a penalty for Germany in the 85th minute after a foul on Nelson Weiper, which Woltemade safely converted. He crowned his performance with the third goal.
It wasn't just the result that made an impression, the performance as a team was also convincing. Coach Antonio di Salvo praised the successful start to the tournament, but noted that some phases of the game could be improved. The team hasn't lost in 16 games, which also speaks for their self-confidence.
The course of the group and the next opponents
With this first victory, Germany took an important step towards the knockout round. The next challenges await the DFB juniors in Group B: They will face the Czech Republic on June 15th, followed by the cracker against defending champions England on June 18th. England beat the Czechs 3-1 in their first game, raising expectations for the match against Germany.
The German U21 was well prepared and underwent intensive training in Modra, north of Bratislava. However, there was also negative news: player Finn Jeltsch had to leave the team due to injury, and some changes were necessary in the squad, including the deletion of goalkeeper Johannes Schenk and striker Derry Scherhant.
The entire tournament from June 11th to 28th, 2025 in Slovakia could be a significant success for the German U21. Expectations are high and the first encounter with a 3-0 win has already shown that they have the potential for greater things. The fans are optimistic and believe in a successful European Championship for the young wild ones.
A successful start - even if there are still a few challenges ahead of the team, Germany seems ready to win the title. Who knows, maybe Woltemade and Co. can actually achieve their big goal!
