Future Festival in Bielefeld: Become part of planetary justice!
Bielefeld, Deutschland - From June 30th to July 5, 2025, the festival "Thinking.Meben.handel.handel - A Future Festival for Planetary Justice" takes place in Bielefeld. This event is organized by working group 10 "Migration Education and Racism Criticism" at the University of Bielefeld in cooperation with Welthaus Bielefeld e.V. The aim of the festival is to talk to people in times of multiple crises - such as the climate catastrophe, social inequality and misanthropic politics - and to discuss political attitudes and personal experiences.
The festival promises a wide range of over 100 free events, including workshops, discussions, art, theater and various hands-on offers. It is aimed at all interested parties from science, politics, activism, education, civil society and the public. The opening event includes a panel discussion on the topic "What is planetary justice and what can it be in a polarized world?" Followed by a concert entitled "Confidence".
diverse program and venues
The events of the festival take place at various locations in Bielefeld, including the adult education center, the art association, the university, the Welthaus as well as the Alarmtheater and the ride -up school tailwind. Other highlights include the conversation "A Pluriversum of Utopias", the panel discussion "Revolution or Transformation?" on July 2 and the play "Climate Monologist" on July 3. On July 4, the film "never alone, always together" will be shown before the festival ends on July 5 with a global brunch and a final party with cabaret and music.
Childcare is offered daily from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for families, but registration is required. The full program is available online at www.dfh-festival.de .
climate justice in focus
In the context of the festival, the topic of climate justice plays a central role. The initiative addresses how different population groups are affected by the climate crisis. Historically speaking, for example, the poorest countries contribute much less to global warming, while countries in the global north like Germany have a high level of responsibility for emissions. This is reinforced by the fact that the richest 10% of the population in Europe cause as many emissions as the poorest 50% together.
These injustices become particularly clear in natural disasters. As in the case of Hurrikan Katrina in 2005 in New Orleans, where poorer African -American communities suffered disproportionately, it can be seen that access to resources and protection against extreme weather conditions are often unevenly distributed. Such crises underline the need for a fair distribution of the burdens of climate protection measures and demand a critical examination of the global economic system.
The events of the festival should not only raise awareness of these topics, but also show ways of how Planetar can be thought, felt and acted. Open debates and creative approaches should encourage participants to actively contribute to the design of a fair future.
