EU project at the University of Bielefeld: KI for fair decisions in focus!

The European PhD network (Confident Data-Driven Decision Support) aims to revolutionize the way companies make decisions. Coordinated by the , the project receives a funding of 4.6 million euros from the EU program Marie Skłodowska-Curie by 2029. enables the training of 15 doctoral students in interdisciplinary projects that work at the interface of research and practice.

A central concern of Cords is the development of the next generation of AI-based decision-making systems. These should not only be more efficient and faster, but also fairer. Application examples range from the fair distribution of blood donations to the efficient control of ship containers to fair allocation of resources in healthcare. However, the use of conventional optimization tools is limited because they require detailed expert knowledge and often cannot react flexibly to new data.

partnerships and research focus

Cords methods combine optimization research and machine learning (ML) to develop data-based optimization processes that meet the requirements of European AI regulations. This includes explanable, robust and understandable algorithms. The doctoral students are integrated into individually supervised doctoral projects and complete at least one multi-month industrial secondment among corporate partners, which promotes the transfer of theory into practice.

The topics of the research projects are diverse and range from Deep Reinforcement Learning for logistics to transparent assignment procedures in assessment systems. These approaches are not only technologically progressive, but also contribute to the strategic importance of the European innovation landscape by forming experts in the areas of AI, optimization and ethics.

Advantages and challenges of AI in the decision -making process

artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionize many industries. According to IT-P optimize AI systems not only decisions and automate processes, but also create competitive advantages for companies. The combination of machine learning and cognitive skills enables faster and more precise decision -making, which is of central importance in an increasingly digitized economy.

The advantages of AI in the decision -making is:

  • real-time data analysis
  • Reduction of errors
  • Efficiency increase
  • forecast ability
  • Improvement of business logic
Nevertheless, companies face challenges such as data quality that influences the accuracy of the decisions, as well as non -transparent decision -making processes that can endanger trust in the systems. Data protection is also an important aspect, since high security measures are required to ensure the integrity of the processes.

The symbiosis of man and machine is viewed as the key to improving decision -making, and companies that use AI effectively can achieve significant competitive advantages. The Cords project is a step in this direction and ensures that future AI systems meet the ethical and social standards.
