Andrea Kiewel celebrates her 60th birthday in Spain despite the Middle East conflict!

A special event was on the program: Andrea Kiewel celebrated her 60th birthday on June 10, 2025. To mark this milestone anniversary, she was supposed to host a special program on “ZDF- Fernsehengarten” on June 15th, but current developments in the Middle East region put a stop to the plan. Loud Mercury Due to the Israel-Iran conflict, Kiewel was unable to travel to Mainz as the airspace over Israel was closed.

In her absence, Joachim Llambi and Lutz van der Horst stepped in as moderators. Llambi, who was originally intended as a sidekick, emphasized that Kiewel was doing well, but that she was very sad about not being able to be part of the anniversary broadcast. The audience in Mainz didn't miss out and gave a hearty applause for the presenter, whose return is already being eagerly awaited ZDF today reported.

The celebrations abroad

Andrea Kiewel didn't just spend her 60th birthday being lazy. Instead, she enjoyed a relaxing day in Spain, where, among other things, she jumped into the hotel pool and enjoyed two espressos. A visit to the impressive Sagrada Família in Barcelona was also on her agenda. In her column, she addressed the topics of aging and youth madness and expressed her gratitude for her body, such as Giessener Anzeiger reported.

Although the conditions that led to her absence are anything but pleasant, the situation remains challenging for Kiewel. Viewers had hoped the plan would be to hear them via video link from Tel Aviv, but it was unclear whether that would be possible given the hectic situation. It's a shame that she couldn't come in person to the planned anniversary broadcast, which was peppered with appearances by stars like Katja Ebstein, Marianne Rosenberg, Peter Schilling and Johnny Logan.

The “ZDF TV Garden”: A long-running favorite on German television

The “ZDF TV Garden” has been an integral part of German television since 1986 – and Kiewel has been the show’s defining figure since 2000. Her moderation has made the show one of the most popular formats, with enthusiastic viewership numbers of around 5,000 to 6,000 per program each season. The numbers for live viewers are also impressive: around 100,000 people watch the popular live broadcasts every year.

The production of the “ZDF TV Garden” is not only an experience for the audience, but also a logistical masterpiece. 130 team members work behind the scenes, using 10 to 12 studio cameras and many other technical highlights. Attention is paid to an inclusive design: the program is broadcast with audio description and subtitles.

No matter where Andrea Kiewel is, one thing remains clear – she has a loyal fan base that is hoping for her return. Until then, we can only wait and keep our fingers crossed that she will soon be back in Mainz and delight her fans with her special style.
