Construction work in S-Bahn traffic: Significant restrictions from July 4th!
The S-Bahn in Berlin will face greater challenges in the coming weeks. Due to construction work, there are noticeable restrictions in train traffic on five lines. These measures are necessary in order to build a new electronic signal box in the area of the Schöneweide S-Bahn station. Loud Berlin Live Train traffic between Schöneweide and Grünau as well as Grünbergallee will be completely stopped. Construction will take place from Friday, July 4th at 9:45 p.m. to Monday, July 7th at 1:30 a.m.
During this time, commuters will have to prepare for alternative bus services. A replacement bus route was set up for the S46, which runs between Schöneweide and Grünau. The stops are Sterndamm (Schöneweide), Wagner-Régeny-Allee (Johannisthal), Rudower Chaussee (Adlershof) and Richterstraße (Grünau). Another bus line runs for the S9 between Schöneweide and Grünbergallee, which also serves the stops Ewaldstraße and S-Bahn station Altglienicke. To avoid inconvenience, passengers are encouraged to find out about routes in advance via the S-Bahn app or on notice boards.
Additional construction work and timetable changes
But that's not all! A look at the coming weeks shows that there will be additional restrictions between Warschauer Straße and Westkreuz. There will also be timetable changes between 1:45 a.m. and 3:40 a.m. from June 17th to 20th and July 1st to 4th. And that is just part of the plan to modernize the S-Bahn network. S-Bahn Berlin has announced a large number of construction sites and therefore also timetable changes, which will be spread over the month of July.
There will be further interruptions for the Teltow Stadt to Lankwitz route from July 4th to 7th, followed by further construction work on July 11th and 12th. The S-Bahn line from Gesundbrunnen to Nordbahnhof will also be affected at night.
Tips for commuters
Commuters and travelers should always stay up to date and check information about S-Bahn traffic regularly. Before boarding the replacement buses, passengers should make sure to purchase their tickets in advance as tickets are not sold on the bus.
The ongoing construction work is ultimately intended to increase the quality and safety of Berlin's S-Bahn network and improve the everyday mobility of users. We can only hope that all passengers have a good hand when switching to the buses and get to their destination safely.
