Berlin celebrates new Michelin stars: Loumi surprises with an award!

The new one was opened in Frankfurt am Main on June 17, 2025 Guide Michelin Germany 2025 presented. There are now 22 restaurants in Berlin that have been awarded the Michelin star, an increase of one compared to last year. This impressively shows that the city continues to play on the culinary Olympus.

The inclusion of “Loumi” in Kreuzberg, which has recently joined the ranks of star restaurants, is surprising. On the other hand, the “Lorenz Adlon Dining Room” had to give up one of its two stars. A strong indication that the Michelin inspectors, who visit the restaurants anonymously and with a high level of experience, have high expectations and consistently implement them.

The distribution of stars in Berlin

The current distribution of stars is as follows: One restaurant enjoys the highest award of three stars, while four restaurants have been awarded two stars. The remaining 17 restaurants have earned one star. Here is an overview:

Awards Number of restaurants
3 stars 1
2 stars 4
1 star 17

Those who were awarded three stars are: CODA Dessert Dining, FACIL, Horváth and Tim Raue. They represent the pinnacle of culinary creativity in Berlin and are considered undisputed top chefs. The evaluation factors used by experienced inspectors include, among others, the quality of the products and the price-performance ratio.

Michelin and its history

The Guide Michelin has a long history that began in 1900 when it was founded by the brothers André and Édouard Michelin. Originally intended to provide travelers with practical information, the guide has evolved over the years and is now the benchmark in restaurant reviews. Stars were first awarded in Germany in 1966, and since then the awards have been considered the highest recognition a restaurant can receive.

The importance attached to stars is reflected in the fact that restaurants don't have stars forever - they are subject to regular reviews. One star represents “quality cuisine worth a stop,” while the two-star award represents “excellent cuisine worth a detour,” and three stars represent “exceptional cuisine worth a special trip.”

In total, there are 341 Michelin-starred restaurants across Germany, which represents an increase compared to the previous year. This development shows that the gastronomic offering in Germany is gaining increasing international visibility.

Finally, it is clear that the consistent assessment by the Michelin inspectors not only increases the quality of the restaurants in Berlin, but also makes an important contribution to the culinary landscape of the entire country.
