Fête de la Musique: Berlin celebrates 30 years of music diversity for free!

On June 21, 2025, Berlin will celebrate a very special festival: The Fête de la Musique, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, transforms the capital into a mecca for music lovers. A colorful program of live bands, rap shows and DJ sets will be offered at over 300 locations across the city, from busy squares to hidden backyards. In keeping with the spirit of the event that celebrates the beginning of summer, the musical dance begins at 2 p.m. and ends well after midnight, and it's all free of charge! Tip Berlin knows exactly how much variety the fête has to offer.

This event is not only the largest free music festival in Berlin, but also attracts music fans from all over the world every year. From historic revivals of classic tunes to the latest hip-hop rhythms, there's something to suit every taste. This year the Pankow district, which is represented by over 40 music venues, has the special privilege of being a partner district. The popular “Unpluggedival” festival also takes place here, celebrating the special atmosphere of acoustic music. The Berlin tourism page highlights how important it is that everyone, whether amateur or professional, has the opportunity to stand on a stage and present their music.

Colorful variety of programs

The Fête de la Musique promises a wide range of offerings: from drag performances at the Tipsy Bear Bar to Afrobeats and R&B by the water at YAAM. Also not to be missed is a 56-minute rave event in the Haus der Visionäre with the DJ Overmono, while the Kesselhaus in the Kulturbrauerei celebrates the end with French music acts. RBB24 reports that the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra will also be giving a concert that will be broadcast outside. Another highlight will be the free open-air rave at Ritter Butzke, which turns night into day.

The Museum of European Cultures in Dahlem will offer dance courses and rehearsals for live bands, while the Aufbau Haus on Moritzplatz will celebrate its tenth anniversary with electrifying music. Even the Bären kennel in Köllnischer Park is being used as an event location for the first time and promises a series of concerts. This broad spectrum shows how the Fête de la Musique is not just an event, but a living mosaic of sounds and cultures.

A celebration for everyone

The Fête de la Musique is more than just a music festival; It pursues the larger goal of strengthening social cohesion through music. Originally launched by Jack Lang, then French Minister of Culture, in 1982, the event is now celebrated in more than 1,000 cities worldwide. She encourages people to discover new styles of music and artists and to make new acquaintances in the process. Tip Berlin emphasizes that the Fête offers the perfect opportunity for everyone to get involved - be it as a concert organizer or performer.

The anticipation for the Fête de la Musique is palpable in the air. With numerous free events spread across the city, Berliners are well advised to use public transport to flexibly get from one event to the next. The organizers also focus on accessibility so that everyone has the opportunity to be part of this unique celebration. So let’s get to the music, because Berlin has a lot to offer!
