On Friday morning, October 31, 2025, a major fire broke out in a metal technology company in the Lichterfelde district of Berlin, which lasted for several days and presented the fire department with a major challenge. The flames blazed primarily in the technical room on the first floor of a factory building and spread to a hall, but were quickly contained thanks to the courageous intervention of the fire department. Around 80 firefighters were still on duty on Sunday, November 2nd, to complete the extinguishing work and to monitor the last embers. The fire broke out on an industrial site on the Barnackufer, affecting several hundred square meters. The buildings affected include a warehouse, parts of an office building and several extensions. Fortunately, there were no people in the building over the weekend, so there were no injuries. It was also possible that the fire brigade worked with two turntable ladders to extinguish the fire from outside, as access to the building was considered too dangerous. A drone team was also deployed to get a better overview of the situation. These emergency services were finally able to complete the final extinguishing operations on Sunday, and only ten firefighters remained at the scene to look for remnants of the fire.

Mysterious cause of fire

To date, police have not released any information about the cause of the fire. The fire commissioner is carrying out extensive investigations to clarify the background to the incident. According to the RBB, the situation was tense in many places as a large cloud of smoke, which was already visible from some distance, worried residents and passers-by.

In another development, it was revealed that a company has been hired to carry out the demolition work of the affected structures. This indicates that serious damage has occurred that no longer allows the buildings to be renovated.

Fire department in constant operation

A total of up to 200 firefighters were involved in the extinguishing work. They show once again how important a well-prepared and equipped fire department is for the safety of citizens.
