French fries panic in Prinzenbad: hurrying guests rush to the kiosk!
Just imagine: It's a scorching hot summer day, the temperatures exceed 30 degrees, and thousands flock to the Kreuzberg summer pool to treat themselves to some cooling refreshment. That's exactly what happened to bathers on June 15th when the outdoor pool was filled to capacity. But this pleasant day took a turn when an announcement caused a stir: the French fries kiosk only had a limited contingent and visitors were urged to be quick in order to get something else. This situation not only caused the kiosk to vibrate, but also the bathroom to shake - people were quickly on their feet and made their way to the kiosk to secure the coveted snacks, as berlin-live.de reports.
The Berliner Bäder-Betriebe (BBB) had around 8,600 visitors that day. Such numbers are nothing unusual on hot summer days in the Kreuzberg summer resort. These flows of people reflect the popularity of Berlin's outdoor pools, which are experiencing a real boom this season. Since the start of the summer season on April 27, 2024, around 570,000 visitors have already visited the outdoor pools, which underlines the positive balance of berliner-kurier.de. CEO Johannes Kleinsorg is satisfied with the implemented security concepts, which will be further optimized together with the police and external security services.
Safety and hygiene in focus
While visitors enjoy the cool water, safety and hygiene are always top priority. The water quality in outdoor pools is continuously monitored. Important measures such as disinfection and treatment of the water are taken. According to information from the [Umweltbundesamt](https://www.umweltbundesamt.de/themen/wasser/schwimmen-baden/schwimm-bade Becken), the water is not only filtered, but also replaced regularly to ensure that no health-threatening microorganisms and contaminants reach bathers. The legal requirements of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) ensure that health authorities control water quality and ensure appropriate hygiene measures.
Unfortunately, there were also some incidents this season that affected the use of the outdoor pools. A total of 303 daily reprimands were issued due to violations of the house and bathing rules. Nevertheless, the overall picture remains positive: only 38 bathers were expelled from the house for the entire season. This is a sign that the new admission management and the introduction of the ID requirement in the outdoor pools since July 2023 are bearing fruit.
Online tickets are trending
Another factor that makes visiting the outdoor pool pleasant is digitalization. In recent years, online ticket sales have proven extremely popular. In 2024, a third of visitors already took advantage of the opportunity to purchase tickets online, which significantly speeds up entry. The ticket offices at the pools only sell tickets until 10 a.m., which eliminates the need to show up early at the counters and minimizes waiting times. Result: more time to swim, relax and enjoy the sunny days!
With a combination of security, ID requirements and a well-thought-out ticket system, the outdoor pools in Berlin are ideally equipped for the hot summer days. And with a bite of the fries from the kiosk, your stay becomes a mini-holiday.
