S-Bahn construction work: massive restrictions in Schöneweide from July!
There are currently some changes to S-Bahn traffic in Berlin that are keeping commuters on their toes. From Friday, July 4th, at 9:45 p.m. until Monday, July 7th, at 1:30 a.m., train traffic between the Schöneweide and Grünau S-Bahn stations will be completely stopped. The reason for this measure is extensive construction work to build a new electronic signal box, which includes, among other things, laying cables and installing new track crossings. So if you're traveling during this time, it's better to plan a little more time!
How Berlin Live reported, this measure affects several S-Bahn lines: S45, S46, S8, S85 and S9 have to switch to alternative means of transport. But don't worry! There is a replacement bus service for the affected lines.
Replacement transport for commuters
The buses on the replacement line S46 will run between Schöneweide and Grünau and stop at the stops Sterndamm (Schöneweide), Wagner-Régeny-Allee (Johannisthal), Rudower Chaussee (Adlershof) and Richterstraße (Grünau). The S9 buses serve the same stops, but also make stops at Ewaldstrasse and Altglienicke.
Passengers are advised to find out about the routes in advance in the S-Bahn app or on posters - this can save some stressful situations. And remember: tickets for the replacement buses must be purchased before the journey, as there are no tickets available for purchase on the bus.
Current challenges in the S-Bahn network
But that's not all. Loud Berlin courier Commuters are currently experiencing massive restrictions due to delays. Many passengers have to expect delays and sometimes cancellations on lines S41 and S42, for example due to a large number of passengers attending a major event. In addition, the S45 is currently not in use due to a lack of personnel.
There is slight relief for passengers traveling to BER Airport from the direction of Baumschulenweg; A replacement bus service was set up here. However, it is also advisable to check the timetables regularly.
In general, several S-Bahn lines are affected due to construction work in the region, even well into September. If you can change to the regional trains RE2 and RE7, you should consider doing so to get to your destination faster. The S-Bahn Berlin has announced that construction work will continue until the autumn, which will result in regular adjustments to the timetable.
The 19th Berlin Railway Festival in Schöneweide is also announced for all steam locomotive fans, which, in addition to a colorful supporting program, also includes over 40 locomotives and wagons. A good reason to give rail transport a different look!
So be prepared for the next few days and plan your trips a little more generously - then switching to alternative transport will be a tiny challenge that can be easily mastered.
