Today, September 17, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) issued a warning of severe storms and strong gusts of wind in Berlin and Brandenburg. These meteorological conditions meant that the Berlin fire department had to move out on Tuesday afternoon to handle numerous operations.[ rbb24 ]
As the DWD announced, gusts of up to 75 km/h can occur in the north and partly in the west of Brandenburg. In unprotected locations, speeds of up to 85 km/h are possible, which increases the risk of falling branches and flying objects. Wind gusts of up to 60 km/h can also be expected in Berlin, which can reach up to 75 km/h in unprotected areas.[ Day24 ]
Fire department operations
Although the number of operations remained under 20, the fire brigade was called upon. There were particularly dangerous situations in Zehlendorf when a dead tree threatened to fall on the U3 route. Another specimen had already fallen over and was immediately removed. In Heiligensee, the fire brigade had to use a turntable ladder to remove dangerous branches from a tree that were at risk of falling. In addition, flower boxes in Neukölln were brought to safety to prevent possible damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.[ rbb24 ]
The weather situation is described as slightly unstable, with a strong westerly wind bringing warm, cold sea air to Germany. Temperatures between 19 and 22 degrees are forecast for the rest of the day. There will be a lot of clouds and local rain, especially in the north, while Berlin and the south should benefit from sun and dryness. Temperatures around 19 degrees and dry weather conditions are forecast for Wednesday. Thursday could then be a little warmer, with up to 23 degrees, and Friday even promise up to 27 degrees, which could bring us a golden late summer.[ Day24 ]
