Drugs, burglaries and invitation to the security conference in Barnim!

On October 8, 2025, a white Ford Kuga that was parked in the Pankepark parking lot was stolen in Bernau near Berlin. The estimated damage is around 40,000 euros. The police have already filed a report and are searching for the vehicle in order to find the perpetrators as quickly as possible. On the same night, several other incidents occurred in the region, once again bringing the security situation into focus.

A break-in into a single-family home in Biesenthal was reported on October 7, 2025. Unknown perpetrators pried open the patio door and searched the ground floor, although the damage caused is still unknown. Forensic scientists have secured evidence at the crime scene in order to find possible clues. In addition, a garage was broken into in Eberswalde on the same day. The thieves stole, among other things, two cell phones, a television, two sets of rims and an e-bike, which caused a total of around 7,800 euros in damage. A car on Drehnitzstrasse also fell victim to the perpetrators; They broke into the vehicle and stole personal items, which caused further damage of around 500 euros.

Security situation in the Barnim district

As the amt-oderberg.de reported, the Barnim Security Conference took place on April 11, 2025 in the New Town Hall in Bernau. The event, organized by District Administrator Daniel Kurth and Police Chief Jens Starigk, brought together representatives from politics, police, justice and municipal institutions to assess the current security situation and plan future measures.

In total, the Barnim police station registered around 10,975 crimes in 2024, which means a decrease of 2,550 cases compared to the previous year. The frequency number fell from 7,050 to 5,685 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, while the clearance rate remained stable at 52.3 percent. The decline in serious residential burglaries from 238 to 151 cases was particularly impressive, with the clearance rate for these crimes increasing from 8 to 19.2 percent. On the other hand, the police recorded an increase in burglaries in basement areas to 186 cases.

Road safety and prevention

There has also been a positive development in terms of traffic accidents. The total number of accidents fell by 3.4% to 4,697, with the number of accidents resulting in personal injury remaining almost constant. Nevertheless, there were 829 injuries and 9 road deaths. What is alarming, however, is the increase in the number of motorcyclist accidents by 35.9% and the number of cyclists by 9.2%. These figures show that measures are necessary to promote road safety, which should be addressed through targeted controls and prevention programs.

Another important aspect is the school prevention programs that are used in daycare centers as well as primary and secondary schools. These cover topics such as cyberbullying, violence prevention and drug abuse and aim to raise awareness among young people at an early stage. The involvement of parents and teachers is also a central point in these programs.

Another important concern is recruiting young talent to the police, which is promoted through school internships, career fairs and individual advice. In times of growing challenges, the long-term preservation and attractiveness of the police profession are of central importance for the future. As the barnim.de highlights, the police and the administration are working together to keep the level of security stable despite the challenges and to protect citizens as best as possible.
