Violence in Eberswalde: Neighbor knocks down 50-year-old!

Late in the evening of September 11, 2025, the police in Eberswalde were alerted to a loud argument on Triftstrasse. A local resident, no longer willing to tolerate the riots, confronted a 50-year-old man. However, he reacted extremely violently and pushed the older man to the ground and then punched and kicked him. Fortunately, the injured party did not require immediate medical treatment, but proceedings for grievous bodily harm are already underway. Such attacks highlight the ongoing challenges in combating violent crime in Germany, which, according to Wikipedia, covers a wide range of crimes.

Another crime occurred on the night of September 11th in Marienwerder, Barnim, where unknown persons broke into a trailer on a construction site. They stole various tools, which resulted in property damage of around 3,000 euros. The criminal police are currently looking for the burglars and are tracking the whereabouts of the stolen goods.

Thefts become a habit

Just one day later, on the morning of September 12th, another break-in took place, this time in a single-family home on Breite Straße, Biesenthal. Here the perpetrators searched the entire house and stole cash and technical equipment. In this case too, the police are investigating to catch the perpetrators and get the stolen items back. These incidents make it clear that not only violent crime, but also burglaries and thefts remain a serious problem. Although violent crimes account for less than 4% of crimes recorded by the police in Germany, they have a significant impact on citizens' sense of security, as [Statista](https://de.statista.com/themen/11062/ criminalitaet-in-deutschland-violentcrime/) reports.

Although Germany has seen a decline in recorded violent crime in recent decades, current figures show a worrying turnaround. Police crime statistics document that there is a renewed increase in violent crimes. Factors such as economic uncertainty and social pressures could contribute to an increase in the number of unreported cases, thereby creating an increased need for security among the population.

The susceptibility to violent crime should not be underestimated, as young men in particular are often the perpetrators. The Federal Criminal Police Office has found that around a third of suspected violent perpetrators are younger than 21 and that the psychological stress caused by the pandemic may have put additional pressure on society. According to Wikipedia, the willingness to report crimes is increasing in larger cities, while it is often lower in rural regions.

Overall, the current incidents and figures show that it is time to intensify both preventive and repressive measures against violent and burglary crimes. Above all, people's sense of security must be strengthened again in the coming months and years. It remains to be hoped that the police can quickly clarify the identity of the perpetrators in order to protect citizens in Eberswalde and the surrounding area from further attacks.
