The Kreiswerke Barnim invited people to get creative on September 20, 2025. Under the motto “Moving forward together!” An open day took place, which attracted numerous families in Eberswalde. Curiosity was great because, in addition to exciting information about the services, the little visitors were offered the opportunity to take part in a painting competition.

A total of 21 talented children contributed their artistic works, which not only demonstrated the creativity of the youth, but also closely reflected the heart of the district's work. Christian Mehnert, managing director of Kreiswerke Barnim, was enthusiastic about the colorful participation of the children and their works.

The winning image will be immortalized

The excitement over which work of art would emerge as the winner was decided by the Kreiswerke WhatsApp community. Members had until September 30, 2025 to vote for who submitted the most beautiful picture. The lucky winner is Karl Balzer, a 10-year-old boy from Eberswalde. His picture is now displayed in large format on a waste collection vehicle and thus becomes a symbol of the children's creative commitment.

But that's not all: the participants' other works of art will also find a place on the vehicle, which will be used to collect bulky waste in the Barnim district from October 27, 2025. This creative collage will not only represent waste disposal, but also celebrate children's art and willingness to participate.

Digital accessibility in focus

While the creative workshops for children were a hit, the district works are also implementing their goals in other areas. It became known that an open day was taking place at the Kreiswerke Barnim under the banner of accessibility. Bernau Live reports that they are continually working to improve the user-friendliness of their digital platform and to specifically target people with disabilities. This included the integration of an accessibility toolbar, which offers, among other things, adjustable text sizes and contrast to provide a better online experience for all users.

Digital accessibility efforts are an ongoing process that is constantly being adapted, and feedback can be provided at any time through the channels provided.

Overall, it shows that the Kreiswerke not only offer creative fun for the youngest, but also take on responsibility in the digital space. So it's a day for everyone involved to come together to exchange ideas and act responsibly.
