From July 10, 2025, drivers on August-Bebel-Straße in Eberswalde will face an important change: on the eastern side of the street, between house numbers 10 and 20, half-side parking on the sidewalk will be permitted. The decision comes after intensive consideration of the current circumstances, as the existing parking regulations turned out to be problematic. In particular, the width of passage for fire engines was no longer guaranteed with parking permitted on both sides, which endangered the safe access of rescue workers in an emergency, as barnim-aktuell.de reports.
The new plan stipulates that parking will still leave space for pedestrians in the future. The sidewalk is sufficiently wide and the curb is only about 10 cm high, which means it can be driven over when driving slowly. Further positive news: the concrete paving surface is ideal for parking and the regulation is interrupted near tree locations to protect the roots of the trees.
