New rescue station in Joachimsthal: A milestone for emergency aid!
The topping-out ceremony for the new rescue station was recently celebrated in Joachimsthal, an important step for emergency care in the Barnim district. This project is part of a comprehensive expansion of rescue infrastructure aimed at improving the quality of life and safety of citizens. How barnim-aktuell.de reported, the new station will replace the temporary structures currently housed in the town hall and the rescue vehicle will also be located in the open air on Joachimsthaler Platz.
Construction of the station officially began on February 12, 2025, and despite the challenges that come with such a project, District Administrator Daniel Kurth as well as District Director Hans-Joachim Blomenkamp and Mayor René Knaak-Reichstein are more than satisfied with the progress. Kurth emphasizes that the new building is crucial for rapid medical assistance and that the new, modern working conditions will benefit the emergency services in the region. The guard is strategically located as it is close to the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve and conveniently located on the B198 and A11.
A leap in quality for emergency care
The new rescue station will not only comply with the current requirements of the technical standard DIN 13049, but will also ensure crisis safety: the self-sufficient operation of the facility is guaranteed, so that service can be maintained even in the event of power outages. As the SK Publishing emphasizes, optimizing the response times of the emergency services is a central goal of this construction project. Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The new building is not only a necessity, but also a sign of progress in the emergency services landscape. A recent study by the Björn Steiger Foundation and the Bertelsmann Foundation showed that emergency care could lose efficiency and quality across all levels, from emergency services to hospital emergency rooms. These findings point to deficiencies that can be specifically addressed through new buildings like the one in Joachimsthal in order to improve overall care Steiger Foundation emphasized.
Overall, the construction of the new rescue station in Joachimsthal is a strong signal for the future of emergency care in the Barnim district. It is hoped that the new structures will not only improve the working conditions for the emergency services, but also the quality of medical assistance for all citizens.
