New phase of life: 96 first graders celebrate starting school in Werneuchen!
On September 6th, 2025 the time had come: The new Werneuchen elementary school warmly welcomed 96 new school starters. In a ceremonial event in the school auditorium, which was opened by Mayor Astrid Hildebrand, the new first graders were treated to an exciting start to their school life. “I wish you a successful start to school life!” the mayor appealed to the young students while encouraging them to have a wonderful and exciting time at school. These wishes also included all older students who are also starting a new school year.
But it wasn't just the celebratory setting that was important. A central concern of the event was to draw attention to road safety around the school area. The mayor warned all road users to be considerate of the new school starters and to focus on the safety of children. Especially in the early days, little explorers can be easily distracted while exploring the route to school.
A look at the school enrollments
A total of four new first classes were formed, which shows that the demand for space in the new primary school is high. Starting school is an important step for many children, and this primary school offers the framework they need to be able to learn creatively and individually. This means that students can complete the entry level in a flexible manner in one, two or even three years, which particularly takes into account the different learning needs.
Although primary school is open to all children, parents have the opportunity to point out their children's special talents when they start school. The school management strives to respond to the special needs of the students and to develop an individual learning program. In mixed-age classes, diversity is seen as an opportunity, which strengthens the sense of community among the students.
This approach is not only found in Werneuchen; it is also supported by a federal-state initiative called “Performance Makes School,” which aims to promote high-performing students. The information platform of the Bavarian Ministry of Education also offers further details on school enrollment and safety on the way to school, which could be of interest to all parents.
For many children, the start of primary school is not only exciting, but also a time of new friendships and learning. It remains to be hoped that all first graders will fully enjoy the opportunities that the new school year offers them. We keep our fingers crossed for a healthy and successful school year!
