Treasure chest discovered in Eberswalde – car theft causes excitement!

A lot has happened in Barnim in the last few days when it comes to local police reports. A surprising discovery and several traffic accidents are the focus of the reporting. Current events are compiled here.

Treasure chest appeared: A dark brown box resembling a treasure chest was discovered in mid-June in a parking lot of a grocery discounter on Heegermühler Straße, Eberswalde. In their initial analysis, the contents appear to consist of costume jewelry. The box and its contents were immediately handed over to the police. This asks the rightful owner to call 033383610. Information about the origin of the box is also welcome, as Barnim Aktuell reports.

Car theft with consequences

On July 1, 2025, at around 2:30 p.m., the police in Chorin were informed about the theft of a car. The stolen vehicle was spotted on the BAB 11 towards Berlin. Despite police requests to stop, the driver continued to flee and hit a Mazda. Ultimately, however, the 26-year-old Iranian driver was stopped and temporarily arrested. A rapid drug test came back positive and a blood test was ordered to confirm this. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident, but the property damage amounted to around 4,000 euros.

Traffic accidents with injuries

Today, July 2, 2025, a traffic accident occurred on Prenzlauer Straße in Wandlitz/Basdorf. Shortly before 7:30 a.m. a Dacia and a Ford Kuga collided. The driver of the Ford then complained of slight pain. The police recorded the incident and estimated property damage at around 10,000 euros. The criminal police are now investigating the causes of this accident.

Driving under the influence of alcohol: On the night of July 2, 2025, around 12:29 a.m., a Polish car driver in Eiche was stopped by the police because of his rapid driving. The smell of alcohol quickly suggested that something was wrong. A breath alcohol test showed an alarming 1.7 per mille. The result: a blood sample was taken and he was banned from continuing his journey. In such cases, the driver faces serious legal consequences. According to Wehner Law Firm, not only can you face fines or imprisonment, but also the revocation of your driving license. In addition, civil law claims for damages may apply to those affected.

Legal consequences and prevention

Road users who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs not only put themselves at risk of causing accidents, but also serious legal problems. [RA Kotz](https://www.ra-kotz.de/verkehrsunfall-unter-lokal-oder-drogeneinfluss-followen-fuer- Schadenssatz-und-strafrecht.htm) emphasizes that even a blood alcohol content of 0.3 per mille is considered relative inability to drive. Above 1.1 per mille there is an absolute inability to drive, which is not punishable, but can have severe consequences, both in criminal and civil law. The costly consequences can sometimes also affect insurance claims, which are excluded in the case of driving under the influence.

Current events show once again how quickly dangerous situations can arise on our roads. Be it theft, accidents or the influence of alcohol – responsible behavior and awareness of your own limitations are the best prevention. In this sense, we can only hope that those affected learn quickly from their misfortunes.
