Summer holiday special: Additional RE3 trains to Stralsund and Binz!
The coming summer holidays will bring momentum to the rail connections between Berlin and the Baltic Sea. From July 26th to September 7th, 2025, the Märkische Oder newspaper additional trips for the popular regional express line RE3 on weekends. This leisure option will be particularly attractive to those looking for a relaxing day by the sea or in nature.
The additional trains run from Berlin-Gesundbrunnen to Pasewalk on Saturdays and Sundays at 9:34 a.m. In Pasewalk there are further connections to Züssow, Greifswald, Stralsund and the Baltic Sea resort of Binz. The return journey from Pasewalk is scheduled for 5:09 p.m. This guarantees a comfortable arrival and departure.
Breakpoints and connections
The RE3 already runs every two hours between Berlin and Stralsund. The additional trips make it even easier to reach the stops in Bernau, Eberswalde, Angermünde, Prenzlau, Britz and Chorin. If you want to go to Stralsund on the weekends, you will be happy that the RE3 is one of the most popular connections in the VBB area is.
Less busy trains from Berlin Central Station can be found during the week at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and in the afternoon at 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. These trains offer a relaxing alternative, especially if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of holiday weekends.
Additional recommendations from VBB
However, the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) warns that the trains could be very busy during the summer holidays. It is therefore advisable to use alternative connections such as the one to Schwedt or the regional train line RB24, which is particularly suitable for hiking and cycling tours in the Barnim Nature Park. There is a limit on how many bikes you can carry in the RE3, so you should keep that in mind too.
Particularly interesting for long-distance travelers: From December 2025, a new daily connection on the RE30 line between Angermünde and Stralsund is planned, which will also run every two hours. This will further improve the capacity of the popular route and offer new opportunities for trips to the coast, such as also the Tagesspiegel reported.
So nothing stands in the way of a relaxing day on the Baltic Sea or in the beautiful surroundings of the Barnim Nature Park. Whether for a sunny day at the beach or a beautiful hike – the trains are ready to take travelers to their destination!
