Basketball for girls: Move Girls Day awakens enthusiasm in Brandenburg!

Willi-Sänger-Straße 77, 14770 Brandenburg an der Havel, Deutschland - basketball is becoming increasingly popular, especially in girls. The trainer Lea Werder heads a committed girls basketball group and brings two coaching licenses. In her training, which she organizes together with Stephan Buhtz, the enthusiastic players not only learn the technology of the game, but also promotes motor skills and social skills. Around ten girls are currently active, but the space in the group could easily be doubled to give even more young athletes the opportunity to live out their fun in basketball. In the future, the group plans to found their own girls' team to take part in mini tournaments and later take part in league competitions in the U12 and U14 area. [MeetingPoint Brandenburg] (https://meetingpoint-brandenburg.de/neuken/artikel/200740-basketball-ist-im-Mehre-Mehren-a- scheit-bei-Maedchen) reports that basketball is not only a team sport, but also activates the brain halves and thus promotes the development. Mike-König Lehmann, coach at the Baskets Brandenburg, underlines this aspect and sees training as a platform for communication, support and respectful handling of the girls.

Another sign of boom in girls' basketball is the upcoming Move Girls Day , which takes place on July 21, 2025 in the Dreifelderhalle Marienberg. This day, organized by the Baskets Brandenburg and the Brandenburg Basketball Association, offers young athletes from grades 1 to 4 the opportunity to play basketball in a playful way. The focus is on the fun: the varied program includes trial units, team and cooperation games as well as small surprises and give-aways. Entry to this event is free of charge and regardless of previous experience - everyone is very welcome to discover the joy of movement. According to SSB Brandenburg, the event is intended to help strengthen the girl's self-confidence and make new friendships. The day begins for the 1st and 2nd grades at 12:30 p.m., while the 3rd and 4th grades start at 1:00 p.m.

growing importance in girls' basketball

The positive response to basketball offers for girls shows that a need for such sports has established itself. In many regions, however, there is still a lack of suitable opportunities for young women to become active and play basketball. The German Basketball BUND has reacted and uses special projects such as "Come on Girls-Let’s Play Basketball" and the publication of new teaching materials to further promote the potential in this area. Initiatives such as girls camps and special events help to address performance-oriented athletes and the broad mass of young people interested in basketball. It becomes visible that basketball for girls is not only a sport, but also an important space for personal and social development.

With the passion of trainers such as Lea Werder and a growing offer for girls, basketball will certainly continue to gain in importance and invite more and more young athletes to get to know this exciting team sport.
