Memorial event for Ukraine: Brandenburgers show solidarity!

Today, August 24, 2025, a moving event was held in Brandenburg an der Havel in memory of the Ukrainian people. Organized by Ukrainians living in Brandenburg and supported by numerous helpers, the event offered a successful mix of traditional music, folklore and art. At the market, guests were able to enjoy the women's delicious cakes and pastries, the proceeds of which go to aid transport for Ukraine. The committed Brandenburg native Detlef Rudloff opened the event and brought in the impressive experiences he has gained since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression. His passionate commitment led him to organize several aid transports to Ukraine, as meetingpoint-brandenburg.de reports.

Uwe Schütt, the deputy district chairman of the Brandenburg an der Havel Senior Citizens' Union, was also among the guests. Schütt expressed his thanks to the people of Brandenburg for the successful event and wanted more suggestions from the city and the city council. Overall, the event went smoothly and to the satisfaction of everyone involved, which further underlines the community and willingness to help in Brandenburg.

Aid transport to Ukraine

In the next few days, Detlef Rudloff will set off again to carry out another aid transport to Ukraine. This time he is bringing special construction yard technology with him, including a transporter, a Bobcat mini excavator and a tipper truck with a crane attachment, for which the keys were handed over to him by Mayor Steffen Scheller. The city of Brandenburg an der Havel has taken care of the organizational issues so that the transport can be prepared quickly. The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) supports the city in this and ensures that 100 percent of the material goods are funded, as stadt-brandenburg.de describes in detail.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Rudloff and his team will hand over the urgently needed technology that contributes to improving civil protection in municipal partnerships with Ukraine at the Polish border with Ukraine. The city administration will take care of the onward transport to Novomoskovsk, where the technical assistance is urgently needed.

The Ukrainian diaspora in Germany

A look at the Ukrainian diaspora in Germany shows how important cultural events are in maintaining the connection between cultures. Since the Russian invasion in 2022, the community has changed enormously, and the Ukrainian diaspora has increasingly established itself as a cultural bridge between Ukraine and Germany. According to polina24.de, the newly arrived Ukrainians are predominantly women, children and the elderly who have fled the horrors of war. This new wave has changed not only the demographic composition but also the social structures of the diaspora.

Cultural identity and activities are at the heart of the Ukrainian community in Germany. Integration varies, and many newcomers face challenges related to access to the labor market and housing. Despite these difficulties, Ukrainians in Germany show great resilience and are actively involved in organizing humanitarian aid for their home country.
