Gollwitz celebrates 650 years with a big anniversary party in the castle park!
On Saturday, July 19, 2025, a very special festival will be celebrated in the picturesque Gollwitz Castle Park: the 650th anniversary of the small but historic district of Brandenburg an der Havel. The roots of Gollwitz go back to 1375, when it was first mentioned in the land register of the Mark Brandenburg. This document, initiated by Emperor Charles IV, was used to record tax revenues and ownership in the region, and makes Gollwitz one of the oldest places in the area, as [RBB24](https://www.rbb24.de/panorama/teil/2025/06/650-jahr- Feiern-in-brandenburg-regionalgeschichte.html) reports.
Over the centuries, Gollwitz has overcome a number of challenges: looting, fires and changes in the ownership structure are part of the village's eventful past. Particularly noteworthy is the stone church, which was probably built in the 15th century and is still considered a local landmark today. From the original 232 inhabitants in 1775, the population grew to 470 by 1928, reflecting the development and attractiveness of the village.
Celebrations for all generations
The festivities begin at 2:00 p.m. with a celebratory service led by Pastor Jens Meiburg. A colorful program is offered to visitors, with something for everyone: from coffee and cake to musical performances and children's activities. As part of the celebrations, historical tours of the town are also planned by the dedicated market woman Christine. And for sporty types, there will be a “street versus street competition” – a competition that is sure to provide lots of laughs and exciting moments.
The highlight of the celebrations will be a dance with an impressive fire show, which will take place from 8:00 p.m. People are even invited to appear in historical costumes to bring the festive flair of past centuries to life. Mayor Steffen Scheller has already sent his congratulations, but unfortunately he will not be able to attend the festival himself, as [City of Brandenburg](https://www.stadt-brandenburg.de/pressetermin/gollwitz- Feiert-650-geburtstag-mit-ein-sommerfest) informs.
A place in time
The history of Gollwitz is closely intertwined with the development of the Gollwitz Castle meeting place, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2019. This institution has developed into an important location for education and cultural-historical exchange. With the support of funding institutions such as the German Foundation for Monument Protection, projects are constantly being implemented here that preserve the cultural heritage, as documented on denkmalschutz.de. In 2025, when numerous towns in the region will celebrate their 650th anniversary, Gollwitz still has a special status, as it is part of a much larger history that goes back to the reign of Emperor Charles IV.
The celebration will therefore not only be an occasion for joy and celebration, but also an opportunity to honor our common roots and reflect on the developments of the last 650 years. Gollwitz is a living part of regional history, and its celebrations promise a colorful festival for all generations.
