HKC 54 triumphs: nine medals at the East German Championships!

The East German Canoe Racing Championships are in full swing, and the athletes of the Hallesche Kanu-Club 54 e.V. are in top form. These top-class competitions will take place on the Beetzsee in Brandenburg from June 29th to July 2nd, 2025. The people of Halle already had reason to celebrate on the first day of the competition because their expectations were far exceeded.

The HKC 54 is more than satisfied with a proud haul of nine medals in total, including three gold, five silver and one bronze medal. What is particularly impressive is that the athletes were able to increase their previous year's result by four medals. Johanna Pflügner won the gold medal in the Kayak Mix KL2 over 200 meters and impressed not only the spectators but also her competitors. Lucie Hanke, who was already on the highest step of the podium last year, defended her title in the kayak single over 500 meters and clearly moved ahead by five seconds.

Medal after medal

The silver medals went to a variety of talented people, including Luna Bürger, Malena Tiede, Jette Hanke and Lucie Hanke, who showed a strong performance in the student B kayak foursome over 500 meters. Lucie Hanke and Jette Hanke also won a silver award in the kayak pair over 2000 meters. Jannes Döbold and Max Menzel can also be proud of their silver medal in the kayak pair over 500 and 2000 meters.

  • Goldmedaillen:
    • Johanna Pflügner – Kajak Mix KL2 über 200 Meter
    • Lucie Hanke – Schülerinnen B im Kanu-Mehrkampf
    • Lucie Hanke – Kajak Einer über 500 Meter
  • Silbermedaillen:
    • Luna Bürger, Malena Tiede, Jette Hanke, Lucie Hanke – Schülerinnen B Kajak Vierer über 500 Meter
    • Lucie Hanke, Jette Hanke – Kajak Zweier über 2000 Meter
    • Johanna Pflügner – Kajak Einer über 200 Meter KL2
    • Jannes Döbold, Max Menzel – Kajak Zweier über 500 und 2000 Meter
  • Bronzemedaille:
    • Elisa Döbold, Luis Wolfram – K2 Mix Offen

But not everything went according to plan. Jannes Döbold initially had to give up third place in the 500 meter final after a setback, but still ended up in a solid fourth place on the second attempt. Such rollercoaster rides are part of the sport and show how close things can sometimes be.

A big event in Brandenburg

But these achievements are only part of the 34th East German Championships, which will be held from June 26th to 29th, 2025 on the regatta course at Beetzsee. A total of 757 athletes from 56 clubs have registered, including the team with the largest number of participants, SC DHfK Leipzig with 80 athletes. The championships also serve as qualification for the German championships in the student A and youth age groups.

The atmosphere on site is exuberant and around 80 helpers contribute to the smooth organization. Spectators can not only follow the exciting competitions directly from the stands, but also conveniently in the live stream on Facebook and the regatta team's homepage. Your physical well-being is taken care of with culinary offerings and stalls. In addition, the timekeeping is taken care of by the IMAS company and there are free drinking stations for the athletes until the last medal so that everyone stays well hydrated.

The award ceremonies are carried out by well-known personalities, which gives the event an additional shine. The second chairman of the regatta team, Michael Kenzler, expressed his excitement about the competitions and warmly thanked the sponsors and helpers for their support.

In summary, it can be said that the East German Championships 2025 are a real sporting highlight that not only attracts top athletes, but also inspires many spectators. For further information, all details are available on the organizers' websites: Kanu Brandenburg and Brandenburg Live.
