Carnival 2025: The youngest royal couple brings joy to Brandenburg!

On November 8th, 2025 the time has finally come: The Brandenburg carnival club “BKC” e.V. 1964 and the carnival club Havelnarren e.V. (KCH) are ringing in the start of the long-awaited carnival season with their prince balls. The KCH is celebrating its 57th season, while the BKC is proudly starting its 62nd season. Under the motto “Metal and glass decorates facades – Roland laughs, the fool rules” the BKC is entering a new year full of celebratory highlights, and at 19 and 20 years old, the royal couple have the youngest average age in the club's history.

The anticipation is palpable, and that doesn't just apply to the members of the clubs: Carnival, also known as Fastelovend, Fasenacht or Fasching, is not just a time of celebration, but of deeply rooted customs that are very important in our regions. Costumes, songs and well-known rituals bring people together and bring a lot of joy. The fifth season has its origins in ancient Rome and is now a firm tradition in the Catholic regions of Germany.

On to the first ceremonial session!

The carnival season officially begins on November 11, 2025 with a big parade that starts at 9:00 a.m. on Wiesenweg. Things really get going at 10:00 a.m. and the parade leads via Wredowstrasse and Bauhofstrasse to the Steintorturm. A special highlight: The bridge toll will be donated to the “Hoffnungstaler Stiftung Lobetal”, which supports people with mental, emotional and/or multiple disabilities. The procession ends at St. John's Church, where the public proclamation and key handover will take place at 11:11 a.m.

One of the first highlights after the move is the first pageantry session of the season, scheduled for January 31, 2025. As in previous years, the atmosphere promises to be happy and exuberant. On the BKC and KCH websites you can find all the important details about the upcoming events between Women's Carnival and Shrove Monday, during which the streets around Cologne, the heart of the Rhenish carnival, will shine with colorful hustle and bustle.

Carnival traditional and diverse

The diversity of the celebrations is just as remarkable as the regional differences that exist in Germany. In Catholic areas, such as the Rhineland, celebrations traditionally take place with great effort and many events, while Protestant regions have only become heavily involved in carnival in the last 30 years. Historically, different traditions mix here, from ritual festivals honoring the gods in ancient times to local customs that have often been passed down through generations.

A very special custom is women's carnival, on which women symbolically take power and are allowed to cut off men's ties. The major event of the Rose Monday parade in Cologne attracts not only locals but also many tourists and is considered one of the highlights of the entire carnival season. No carnivalist can miss such a spectacle with around 10,000 participants and up to a million spectators.

With all these exciting events and the special atmosphere in the cities, it is no wonder that Carnival in Germany is not just a celebration, but a living tradition that connects many people together. For everyone who wants to experience the celebrations up close: There is enough information and offers to immerse yourself in the colorful world of carnival.
