Lebenshilfe celebrates 35 years: a success for people with disabilities!
On June 21, 2025, the Lebenshilfe Brandenburg-Potsdam e.V. This important event took place in Brandenburg an der Havel and was recognized by the Secretary of State Patrick Wahl in a warm greeting. He emphasized the valuable work of the association, which has been committed to the concerns of over 400 people with mental and/or multiple disabilities as well as psychological impairments since 1990. The association is active in the Hovelland district and in the city of Brandenburg/Havel.
The Lebenshilfe Werkstatt Brandenburg an der Havel gGmbH, which has had around 230 employees since its foundation in 1995, is one of the 28 recognized workshops for people with disabilities in Brandenburg. These facilities play a crucial role in promoting participation in working life for people who often have difficulties due to their impairments on the general labor market. According to mgs.brandenburg.de not only offer vocational training, but also an appropriate work that meets the performance of the employees. Around 10,000 people with disabilities are currently working in these workshops, which are all members of the State Working Group on Workshops for Disabled People Brandenburg e.V.
Various offers for people with disabilities
The Lebenshilfe Brandenburg-Potsdam e.V. offers a wide range of support offers. From school accompaniment to early funding to outpatient services, comprehensive support is guaranteed. Special advice centers and a daycare center also ensure that people's needs are covered as best as possible. These facilities are geared towards improving the quality of life of those affected and promoting their self -determination.
Political support cannot be overlooked either. In 2023, the Package 3.0 Package for Disability was launched, which drives the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Germany. This comprises 55 concrete measures in nine fields of action and has set itself the goal of further improving the participation of people with disabilities by 2027. The social relevance of this topic can be seen not least in the positive impact on the state budget, as in bpb.de not only uses people with disabilities Individuals, but also the entire society.
challenges on the labor market
Despite this progress, the employment of people with disabilities remains a challenge. Data show that the unemployment rate for people with severe disabilities is around 11.5 percent, while it is only 7 percent for the total population. Problems such as psychological stress, stigmatization and mobility restrictions often mean that many potential workers cannot be integrated into the labor market. The need for measures tailored to the concerns of these people is therefore more urgent than ever.
Overall, it can be said that Lebenshilfe Brandenburg-Potsdam e.V. and the workshops offered there are taking a decisive place in inclusion work. The festive event for the anniversary was an occasion to not only celebrate, but also to point out the ongoing challenges and the need for further support and participation. It remains to be hoped that the positive developments will continue and that more and more people with disabilities will get the chance of life in participation and self -determination.
