Night daycare in Brandenburg: Innovative solution for single parents!

Since September 2025, Brandenburg an der Havel has had an innovative solution for parents who want to have their children looked after at night. The “Lebenswelten” daycare center has set up an overnight unit called “Traumwelten” that can accommodate up to twelve children aged one to twelve years. Abiba Conteh is one of the many single mothers who bring their child to this facility. Since she works shifts, night care offers her welcome support.

Matthias Pietschmann from Lebenshilfe in Brandenburg-Potsdam emphasizes the importance of this offer, especially for employees of the city's clinics. However, in order to take advantage of night care, parents must demonstrate a real need and conclude an additional contract. The whole thing isn't free fun: the costs are at least 30 euros per month or 25 percent of the regular parental contribution. The offer is currently limited to children who already attend the “Lebenswelten” daycare center.

Parents express concerns

There was some discussion around the concept of night daycare. Some parents draw parallels to the daycare centers in the GDR, which were criticized at the time. But social worker Carolin Märzke vigorously rejects these concerns. “The children are not here all week,” she explains, “and the childcare times are meticulously adhered to.” The specialist who puts the little guests to bed in the evening is also there for them the next morning, which promises additional security.

There are already nine overnight daycare centers in Brandenburg, including in Potsdam and Teltow, which supports the development of this new care model. Night care closes a gap in care that not only benefits single parents, but also those in shift work.

A look into the music and television world

In a different but equally exciting world, singer Katy Perry is making a name for herself. The talented musician, known by her real name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, recently released her new album “143”. This was launched on September 20, 2024 and adds to their impressive discography, which includes over 151 million records sold. Katy, who also served as a judge on “American Idol,” turned heads and secured her place in the history books, becoming the first artist to have multiple music videos reach over a billion views on platforms like Vevo and YouTube.

Katy Perry has also set 19 Guinness World Records, and her career dates back to her first gospel album, which she released at age 16. While she topped the charts with her hits like "I Kissed a Girl" and "Firework," she also remains notable for her philanthropic activities, including as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Whether in the world of little night owls in Brandenburg or in the spotlight of Hollywood – a lot is happening. Parents in shift work can look forward to new care models, while Katy Perry fans can look forward to fresh music and exciting developments in their lives.
