Senior representative Norman Asmus: Exchange on the future in Brandenburg!

An exciting exchange of views will take place in Brandenburg an der Havel on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, chaired by the senior citizen representative for the state of Brandenburg, Norman Asmus. This event, scheduled in the Roland Room of the Old Town Hall, promises to be an important forum for all interested parties. The event begins at 3 p.m. and the Senior Citizens' Advisory Board warmly invites all citizens to contribute their opinions and concerns. City of Brandenburg reports that the focus is on central topics such as the challenges of senior policy and strengthening volunteer work.

The interest in the event could hardly be greater. Mayors and local representatives are encouraged to actively participate in the discussion. There are many open questions that need to be answered: What challenges do we face in senior policy? How can we expand the existing offerings to improve coexistence for all citizens? What expectations do seniors have of state politics? These are just some of the basic questions that are up for discussion.

Focus on healthy aging

A further step towards improving the quality of life of older people is being taken by the “Getting Older Healthily” alliance, which was launched in March 2012. Initiated by the Ministry of Health, it aims to sustainably improve the conditions for healthy aging in Brandenburg. It already includes 39 partner institutions, including health insurance companies, welfare associations and senior citizens' councils. MGS Brandenburg further explains that the alliance also takes care of specific issues such as oral health and encouraging physical activity for older people.

The initiative has founded four working groups that deal with important aspects of aging. Topics include vaccination protection for older people and maintaining independence in old age. These questions in particular are of great importance in the context of the event with Norman Asmus. This discussion will certainly stimulate the exchange with the local seniors' councils and show how important a holistic approach to seniors' policy is.

Strong together in volunteer work

Strong volunteerism is crucial for the local community. The debates are not only at a political level, but also directly take into account the concerns of senior citizens. Msgiv Brandenburg emphasizes that the community is becoming more and more important as a place to live for the aging society. Incorporating volunteer work into senior citizen policy can help shape the aging process positively and sustainably improve living conditions.
