CITY CYCLING 2025: Havelstadt collects kilometers for the climate!
On Sunday, September 7th, 2025, CITY CYCLING began in Brandenburg an der Havel in brilliant weather. Organized by ADFC, the active participants from different parts of the city cycled to the green area at the Packhof. A particular highlight was the participation of Mayor Steffen Scheller, who cycled 20 kilometers on the start day and is registered in the city administration team.
This year, the Havel city will compete against its Danish sister city Ballerup until September 27th. The aim is to accumulate as many kilometers as possible on the bike and thereby actively contribute to climate protection. By midday on Tuesday, 645 cyclists had already registered in 122 teams, who together completed over 2,000 rides and rode almost 23,000 kilometers. Accordingly, a considerable amount of over four tons of carbon dioxide has already been saved.
A comparison with the previous year
Last year, CITY CYCLING was a complete success: almost 1,000 participants covered around 192,000 kilometers and avoided around 32 tons of carbon dioxide. The wish for 2025 is clear: the 200,000 kilometer mark should be exceeded. This goal motivates many people to cycle more of their everyday journeys.
Participation in CITY CYCLING is open to everyone who lives, works or studies in Brandenburg an der Havel. Club members are also warmly invited to register. Registrations are still possible until the end of the campaign. With the CITY CYCLING app, participants can not only record their routes using GPS tracking, but also promote the exchange of shared tours in a team chat and view an overview of the results.
A look into the future
The CITY CYCLING campaign is not only important locally but also internationally and is part of the Climate Alliance, which consists of almost 2,000 member municipalities from over 25 European countries. Their goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by ten percent every five years. City of Brandenburg reports that this commitment is not only intended to promote municipal cycling planning, but can also trigger a rethinking of the population.
